SR EHS Lead
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
An EHS Leader leads the safety and environmental functions at an assigned site. The successful candidate in this role works on implementation of critical processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to environment, health, and safety. The EHS Leader must spend significant time on the plant floor, engaging and coaching employees and contractors on a daily basis. As an integral part of the plant leadership team, the EHS Leader will provide information and guidance for activities relating to the site-wide safety and operating objectives. The position acts as the subject matter expert in the plant and is accountable for building capability to ensure a plant wide safety culture.
Reports to: Plant Leader
Span of Control: Primary responsibility is Plant wide; will also be leveraged to provide support across the division (4 other plants) and the broader Insulation business as needed.
Direct reports: One (1), ESHLP as assigned, one (1) Intern as assigned and provides direct support and direction to two (2) hourly positions-Safety & Environmental advocates.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities
Complete all required safety training. Adhere to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards Educate team members on safe operations of new processes or modifications. Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety throughout the Plant to ensure all employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning. Champion of Safer Together initiatives, health and wellness program and sustainability leader Manage Workers Compensation program and health programs Facilitate onsite and offsite relationships with regulatory authorities serving as safety and environmental governances. Prepare and submit regulatory documents to ensure compliance is met and exceeded at all times. Organize and lead community relationships with local and state regulators and emergency response organizations
Environmental Health and Safety Leadership
Lead and support safety initiatives and processes to drive towards an injury free culture. Lead and support environmental initiatives and process to drive towards zero NOVs. Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety to ensure employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning. Incorporate the safety stand and safe improvements into all people-related initiatives. Maintain a leadership presence on the plant floor, influence employee and leadership behaviors, and fully engage employees in the safety process. Enroll and engage the entire workforce to build a powerful safety culture. Advise and guide the Natural Leadership Team (NLT) in developing and implementing a risk-ranked strategic plan, prioritize and advocate capital/resource requests, and advise the leadership team on all aspects of environmental requirements and responsibilities. Grow and develop the safety teams within the workforce. Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of all critical EH&S processes, programs, and procedures including those related to Process Safety Management (PSM). Ability to coach and establish strong relationship with team members at all levels of the organization Ability to interpret union contract and regulatory requirements to implement and execute programs that will satisfy both responsibilities Sets and accomplishes critical metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged safety culture at the plant. Ability to lead to plant success in all pillars of TPM and project leadership
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3+) years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment Bachelor’s degree in safety related discipline or related field Demonstrated success coaching and leading teams in a high employee empowerment culture, while training and developing technical skills in others. Ability to adapt and contribute to plant success in multiple areas (Operations, Talent Development, Project Leadership, TPM) Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Powerpoint, Word Ability to travel as required (10%)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) qualification Leading change management efforts Managing and delivering results through projects and initiatives. Experience with Title V permitting requirements Knowledge of Workers Compensation Knowledge of TPM/project leadership Supervisor/Leadership experience
