General Purpose

Provides professional accounting services utilizing U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Uniform System of Accounts. Activities include preparation of fixed assets related reports used for internal and external purposes; critical analysis and issues resolution associated with fixed assets; interpretation and application of accounting and capitalization policies, including those issued by governmental and regulatory bodies; and ad hoc financial reporting.

Responsibilities Prepare monthly construction work-in-progress, plant additions and other reports for distribution and use by multiple internal groups, including project managers across business units and the corporate accounting, tax and regulation departments.  Perform monthly asset accounting reporting tasks for internal purposes to facilitate analysis in support of internal controls under the Sarbanes Oxley Act Perform critical analysis of capital additions, retirements and transfers data and less routine asset accounting activities/transactions to identify and resolve potential issues and errors, analyze and reconcile other data to identify and resolve discrepancies and research and address other issues on ad hoc basis. Prepare fixed asset related disclosures on a GAAP basis for quarterly and annual filings on Forms 10-Q and 10-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, requiring in-depth analysis and customization of data extracted from the company’s ERP system. Prepare multiple fixed asset pages on a FERC basis for the annual Form No. 1 filed with the FERC and similar pages for the annual state reports filed with the state public utility commissions, requiring in-depth analysis and customization of data extracted from the company’s ERP system. Perform periodic asset accounting reporting tasks for internal purposes to support the company’s mortgage, property tax and insurable values processes. Prepare information required by external auditors in conjunction with annual financial statement audits on a GAAP basis. Perform specialized depreciation tasks on a limited basis. Responsible for compiling responses to data requests for asset accounting to support the development of regulatory filings submitted to state and federal regulatory oversight agencies and in consideration of similar information that has been provided in the past. Perform fixed assets/general accounting and month-end close activities through the preparation and processing of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts.  Consult with operational and management personnel on issues that may be critical, complex, sensitive, or urgent in nature, identifying and implementing solutions. Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience A minimum of seven years’ experience in accounting or a related field Advanced knowledge of GAAP  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish consult and give direction to internal and external customers regarding highly complex accounting matters/issues.  Ability to work with personnel at all levels of an organization, including people with different styles and backgrounds and from other business units, and as a member of a team.  Workload management and leadership skills, including the ability to gather information from multiple sources and complete tasks and projects timely. Advanced use of spreadsheet applications when conducting analysis Experience performing nonroutine research and analysis to identify issues and present solutions Preferences Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an advanced degree  General understanding of FERC Uniform System of Accounts   Proficient understanding of company accounting policies, procedure, practices, company accounting systems and the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley legislation Experience in fixed asset accounting and depreciation theory and practices for regulated utilities Proficiency with SAP Supervisory experience Additional Information
