Sr Investigative Counsel

The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case. **Summary:** This role is responsible for managing high level complaints received through various means, including via Rush’s confidential compliance hotline. Investigations may pertain to complaints that arise under various employment laws and/or Rush policies related to the employment context or learning environment. E.g., Title IX, Title VII, ADA, EEO, applicable administrative law, or other related issues. The Senior Investigator exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. **Other information:** • JD from an accredited institution. • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent judgment and ability to reason. • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information. • Comfortable serving as a witness in arbitration, agency or court proceedings, along with internal appeal processes. • Ability to prepare concise, logical, analytical reports to convey complex material in a readily understandable manner. • A commitment to a diverse and inclusive work and learning environment. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements. **Responsibilities:** • Serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator; directing Rush’s response into complaints arising under Title IX. • Assists Risk Management on a variety of investigatory issues, as needed. • Receives complaints and appropriately triages and disseminates to appropriate Rush system stakeholders. • Conducts complex analyses and produces high-quality written investigation summaries and reports. • Works independently, partnering effectively with appropriate institutional officials throughout the investigative process. • Reports to and works closely with Director of Equity Compliance & Title IX Coordinator; provides regular updates on investigation progress; escalates critical issues as appropriate • Trains direct reports, monitors investigation progress and case management, provides guidance and assistance as necessary • Meets established timelines and treats all individuals engaged in the complaint process with sensitivity and respect; • Creates investigative plan, coordinating and conducting party and witness interviews promptly and thoroughly; • Provides parties with information about the investigatory process and applicable rights and policies; • Gathers and secures relevant evidence and documentation; • Keeps detailed, consistent, and accurate records in electronic database for periodic production of metrics; • Maintains timely communication with all involved parties and key stakeholders; • Makes credibility assessments and maintains accurate records of interviews; • Establishes rapport and works cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, students, patients, and outside entities • Ensures prompt, fair, and neutral investigatory processes for all parties; • Works within a matrixed and complex organization to manage conflict and competing priorities; • Drafts Rush policies and procedures consistent with applicable laws; • Develop training programs consistent with Rush policies and applicable laws; • Attend ongoing training on employment discrimination and harassment, Title IX, and other federal laws and regulations, investigative techniques, and diversity and inclusion • Participates, as necessary, in administrative and legal case preparation in partnership with in-house and external legal counsel; • Available to respond to critical issues arise outside of normal working hours on a semi-regular basis. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
