Reporting to the Director Downstream Processing, you will lead teams of experts who are responsible for driving continuous improvements to meet our operations’ strategic goals. The engineers and supervisors of our COE are specialist on process, equipment, and quality. They play a pivotal role in executing strategic projects and ensuring smooth production processes, meeting the highest standards in safety, quality and compliance. As a key member of the business unit management team, you will play an important role in shaping the future of our organization. **Key Responsibilities:** + Lead and coach a team of supervisors and engineers that are responsible for all process, equipment and quality related projects supporting the downstream operations activities. As people leader you provide guidance and support, you set objectives aligned with the business goals, and you ensure a high performing team is in place. + Collaborate with multiple departments (Upstream Processing COE, Make Asset Management (MAM), Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT), and R&D) to drive improvements and innovations, ensuring that every project meets the timelines, budget and customer needs. + Monitor performance indicators to track safety, quality, reliability and financial targets. + Increase downstream processing operational efficiency, by data-driven improvements in yield and performance, through deep understanding of process and technical boundaries of our manufacturing process. + Coach the team in the introduction of new biopharmaceutical products into the plant, aligning process, equipment and operational readiness + Ensure the continuous, validated state of processes and equipment in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), maintaining the highest standards of compliance. + Foster a LEAN culture through Root Cause Problem Solving, perform Gemba walks, observe processes, and confirm their effectiveness. + Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team, holding yourself and colleagues accountable to foster an inclusive culture that reflects the communities we serve. **Must-Have Qualifications** + Master degree in a related field + Minimum 8-10 years of practical industrial experience in operations management, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role + A positive attitude that influences team morale and productivity + Proven track record of effective change leadership and problem-solving abilities, successfully navigating complex challenges **Experience and Skills:** Required: + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills + High safety and quality awareness: experience with EHS and cGMP standards + Exceptional communication skills + Solid understanding of operational standard processes and industry trends + Proven track record of successfully leading and inspiring change in a complex operational environment Preferred: + Experience in a pharmaceutical or Downstream Processing environment. + Experience in project management + Familiarity with LEAN methodologies. + Established relationships with external stakeholders. **Other:** + This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work locally in the area of vibrant city of Leiden, allowing you to make an impact on site while enjoying a collaborative and innovative work environment. + **Certifications:** Preferred certifications of Six Sigma Green Belt, which will enhance the candidate's ability to manage projects and implement process improvements effectively. \#LI-Hybrid \#LI-FG1
