Sr Manager - Software Engineering

The Sr. Manager – Software Engineering will manage engineering teams to design innovative products. You will drive product definition, execution, testing and delivery of complex, large scale products for Michaels. This senior manager will manage multiple engineering teams across different functional areas. You’ll be a partner to our Product and Design teams, helping to bring light to engineering challenges such as scalability and robustness while continually supporting the growth of the engineers on your team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate technical leadership to drive execution of projects, lead project meetings and present project status to Tech executive team.

Major Activities

Manage multiple highly skilled teams of software engineers across different functional areasFacilitate continuous learning and improvement for your teamParticipate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring and onboarding exceptional engineering talent Be responsible for the growth of the team, including individuals' career growth, skill set development, and hiring the right resourcesEnsure team goals are achievedManage design and development of complex, large-scale projectsDrive execution of projectsLead your management teams in cross-functional project meetingsLead milestone reviewsPresent project status to Tech executive teamDevelop and execute systems strategies to support business goalsBe willing to dig in and provide hands-on support building software when needed to help support your team and Michaels.Have a high level of comfort with analytical approaches and quantitative methodsDevelop and leverage internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goalsPartner with product managers, designers, and analytics to ensure that your team is delivering value for customers

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or STEM-related field of study

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

Experience with large-scale web traffic and data structures, Algorithms, and Linear Algebra.Knowledge of programming languages, including Java, Python, C, C++. MongoDB, and MySQLExperience in building search systems such as Elastic, SORL, Lucene, Algolia, and large-scale data pipelinesExperience with cloud services, such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.Experience in machine learning/computer vision/natural language processing applicationsExperience managing multiple leaders across different skill setsExperience presenting high-level roadmaps to executive teams10+ years of experience in software development7+ years leading engineering teams with growing responsibility6+ years as Engineering Product or Program Manager
