This role is ideal for a smart, sharp, and driven engineer with a strong grasp of concept-level design, schematics, and construction drawings. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience in Mechanical systems design for mission-critical environments.

As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical Data Center sites, provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of site design and program requirements.

The successful candidate will develop and implement design strategies to expand the firm’s expertise, footprint and profitability in Critical Facilities and Digital Infrastructure. Our client is looking for a Critical Facilities Engineer that has expertise in Mechanical / Cooling Systems Engineering and Design for data center and infrastructure development efforts, specifically for large data centers. This challenging and unique role will involve the initial design specifications and prototype of mechanical / HVAC / Cooling systems for new data centers and expansions to existing data centers. The ideal candidate will have experience and in-depth knowledge of Mechanical / HVAC / Cooling Systems / Controls System design and installation. Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork and piping sizing, selecting HVAC equipment, energy modeling, CFD / Computational Fluid Dynamics and other engineering calculations.  Previous experience with mechanical equipment design to include: HVAC , Boilers , Chillers , Pumps , CRAC / CRAH Units , Air Handling Units , etc.). You will help lead the design team and working / communicating with all the trades and stakeholders involved in all projects.

Responsibilities:

Manage projects, create designs and plans, provided and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for all sizes of data center facility design projects- enterprise data centers, Colocation Providers and for Hyperscale Companies.Create Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings with the client Create Prototypes that will create the schematics that will be basis for RFPs / RFIsEstablish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies Represent the company in project meetingsCollaborate with all design staff and oversee full cycle electrical design activitiesInteract closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications and lead the construction administration processExecute and lead design teams and design projects of complex scopePerform intermediate to advanced mechanical design tasks including development of cooling systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipmentUtilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawingsReview and / or prepare book or sheet specifications for mechanical systemsDevelop and / or review sequences of operationsProposal development including project scope, schedule and budgetEffective management of project design team including resource forecasting and coordinationIdentify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlinesSupport contact for design clients and builds effective, long-term client relationshipsSurvey existing building conditions / Conduct Field Observations and prepares technical reports of findings and commissioning supportRepresent the Operations team in startup, testing, factory witness testing, commissioning, and turnoverPrepare project design and construction documentsPrepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering a MUSTProfessional Engineer or on tract for a PE ( current FE or EIT) a big plus!5+ years’ experience in mechanical systems design for Data Centers or Mission Critical Facilities.Previous experience working at an Engineering Consulting firm, A/E, MEP a MUSTExperience with hyperscale / colo / enterprise / complex data center design / mission critical facilities design projects a mustPrevious experience using: Revit MEP projects, AutoCAD MEP, BIM, Trane Trace or IES VE Energy Modeling software a plusPrevious experience with heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork and piping sizing, selecting HVAC equipment, energy modeling, CFD / Computational Fluid Dynamics and other engineering calculationsExperience with Mechanical / HVAC / Cooling Systems / Controls System design and installation.Extensive Experience with Mechanical / HVAC Equipment: HVAC , Boilers , Chillers , Pumps , CRAC / CRAH Units , Air Handling Units , etc.Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of mechanical systems including National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation CodesSite asset acquisition experience a plus; someone that can assist with determining the viability of converting an existing building / brownfield into a Data CenterExperience with creating concept-level design, reviewing drawings, and schematicsExperience performing field observations during constructionUnderstand and apply building codes, permitting, local regulations, and standardsKnowledge of mission critical equipment and systems, design process, pre-construction requirements and the construction processDemonstrated ability to evaluate the design and constructability of site design by third-party consultantsAbility to effectively communicate complex project details and market information and analysis at all organizational levels to include senior leadership, utility partners, and local stakeholdersStrong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects with internal staff, external consultants, vendors, and other stakeholdersMust be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks efficientlySelf Starter, self motivated, Strong problem-solving skills and should prioritize well and have the ability to successfully work independently and within a teamActive participant in local data center organizations (7x24, AFCOM, DCD, Uptime Institute, DICE Bisnow, etc.)Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus! (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)Submittal Instructions:
