Sr Mechanical Engineer - Home Standby Installation

The Senior Mechanical Engineer-Home Standby Installation is responsible for providing engineering input to the product development projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with the cross-functional team consisting of Engineering, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Service.  This role specifically supports Generac’s Residential Home Standby business with a focus on delivering innovations that increase installation efficiencies towards reducing total cost of ownership for or customers.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline5+ years of relevant work experience preferably within power generation or outdoor power equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

Design experience with a variety of materials (i.e. plastics, aluminum castings, sheet metal) and basic knowledge of material specs and useExperience in new product design and developmentAbility to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projectsExperience developing component and/or system level test plans, test procedures, and test reportsExperience in the design layout and packaging of electromechanical components and systemsAbility to conduct analysis using FEA, CFD, etc.Demonstrated written communication and presentation skillsAbility to translate technical information to all audiencesApplies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processesTechnical Skills to include 3D modeling in Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD systemExperience with machine designPrevious experience with SAP or equivalent business ERP system

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Designs, validates, and launches new technical solution and processes that reduce installation times and costsTravel as needed to customer sites to value map the installation and commissioning process towards assessing and identifying opportunities to streamline the install processSpecifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates a variety of moderately complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safetyDesigns, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans for a variety of moderately complex products and/or components; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materialsOversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and validation, making necessary design adjustments to meet functional, performance, and safety requirementsPerform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during development testing, manufacturing, and/or field useDevelop Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA’s, and provide recommendations during Design Reviews.Create and maintain Statements of Requirements (SOR), schematics, and BOMsCollaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize moderately complex designs for manufacturabilityUtilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawingsSupporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)Acts as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineersTravel to other Generac facilities as necessaryOther duties as assigned

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
