In this position as a Mid- to Senior Mechanical Piping Designer, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Supervising and mentoring other Designers/Drafters
Quantity calculations and cost estimating
Feasibility analyses, engineering design,
Organize and interpret engineering data to prepare clear and concise design drawings, engineering reports and technical documentation
Field work responsibilities may include performing project construction observation, interpret contract documents, enforce contract specifications, and review submittals for accuracy, completeness and design consistency.
Prioritize and accomplish multiple assignments efficiently and effectively
Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures
Performs thorough quality control of construction documents and provides design ideas and solutions.
Interfaces with clients and construction personnel on technical terms
Estimates job man-hours and schedule accurately
Tracks progress of job from schedule and cost standpoint
Communicates job requirements and design intent to others
Motivates team members and is an impartial decision maker Your Capabilities and Credentials
Has well-developed understanding of relevant areas of design including codes and requirements specific to local geographic market.
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Proficient in relevant 3D Piping software programs including but not limited to: AutoCAD CADWorx, PDMS, MicroStation and/or Revit. Ability to work in all 3D CAD environments.
Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
Field experience. Can Perform as-builts needed for piping design. P&ids, equipment, supports anchors, guides etc
Proven mentoring skills and desire to work with and encourage junior staff.
Ability to review and approve work.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple jobs/projects.
Proven problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug and alcohol screen.
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory and leadership experience is a plus. Minimum of 10 years of experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
