POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Medical Writer plays a key role in drafting and submitting abstracts, posters, manuscripts for peer-review, and other documents as part of the scientific communications team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Draft and copyedit submissions for abstract, posters and peer-reviewed manuscripts for various business units
Draft or support writing activities as needed for internal validation documents, regulatory submissions or Medicare dossier submissions
Work collaboratively with the Scientific Communications team and actively participate in pub planning activities and managing various projects
Work collaboratively and manage timelines when working with extended teams (Clinical Research, Medical Affairs, R&D, Marketing, and others)
Perform data analysis as needed and develop related graphics and figures using GraphPad, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
Format manuscript and abstracts following journal/congress guidelines
Create and maintain project records on internal publications tracker
Perform fact/data check on writing documents (manuscripts, white papers, dossiers, etc.)
Adhere to Scientific Communication teams writing style guide while copyediting and formatting scientific documents
Manage a list of upcoming congresses with meeting and abstract submission due dates for various congresses
Follow GPP3 and ICJME guidelines in compliance with good publication practices
Collect author forms and disclosures for abstract and manuscript submissions
Create dummy submissions for manuscripts and abstracts as directed
Track manuscript/abstract status online, once submitted
Provide journal articles to people within Natera when requested
Update Natera’s reference library
Update posters/publications on intranet
Keep accurate records of publications content and archive materials relating to completed publications
Record and administer invoicing in relation to publications content as directed
Work with external vendors to manage printing/shipping logistics for posters
QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree (PhD or PharmD) in Biology, Molecular Genetics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, other relevant scientific discipline, Medical Degree (MD) or equivalent required
Five years of academic experience (including time spent in graduate school), and two to four years of experience as a writer focusing on peer-reviewed publications or grants in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, or medical communications industries or have an extensive academic publication record
Experience or background in molecular biology/genomics, oncology, prenatal testing, transplant or diagnostics a plus
Experience submitting abstracts and manuscripts to congresses and journals
Experience developing posters for congresses

Ability to read the primary literature and analyze data if needed
An ability to maintain a positive and professional customer service attitude
Familiarity with electronic literature search tools and obtaining copyright permissions
Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills; experience using Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Professional, and InDesign) a plus
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
