We are seeking a Sr Payroll Specialist to join our payroll operations team with specialized expertise in California payroll compliance, piece work calculations, and prevailing wage administration. This position will be responsible for processing complex payroll scenarios while ensuring adherence to all California state and local employment regulations. This position can be worked from your home office.

Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for California-based employees across multiple locationsCalculate and administer piece work payroll including rate determinations and productivity-based compensationManage prevailing wage payroll including certified payroll preparation and submission, regulatory reporting, and contractor complianceEnsure compliance with California wage and hour laws, overtime regulations, meal/rest break requirementsProcess and maintain accuracy of California-specific deductions: SDI, PFL, ETT, SUIHandle wage garnishments, tax levies, and child support orders per California requirementsCollaborate with department leadership and legal team on employment law changes and regulatory updatesConduct payroll audits and resolve discrepancies for high-volume, multi-location operationsMaintain payroll records in compliance with California recordkeeping requirementsRespond to wage verification requests Requirements 3+ years progressive payroll processing experience2+ years specific experience with California payroll complianceDemonstrated experience processing piece work and prevailing wage payrollExperience with certified payroll reportingProficient knowledge of California Labor Code and employment regulationsWorking knowledge of Davis-Bacon Act and prevailing wage determinationsKnowledge of California Paid Sick Leave Act and local ordinance complianceAdvanced Excel skills for complex calculations and data analysisExperience with HRIS/payroll software systems (Paylocity experience a plus)Understanding of multi-state payroll processingHigh attention to detail and accuracyCustomer service orientation for employee inquiriesAbility to maintain confidentialityStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsMust provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver’s license is required if the role involves drivingPassing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)The compensation and benefits information is accurate as of the date of this posting.
