The Sr Public Relations Manager position is responsible for building reputation with earned and owned media visibility, managing complex communication challenges and deepening engagement with prospective and existing stakeholders, such as consumers, journalists, and influencers. The Sr Public Relations Manager will ensure Thrivent’s enterprise communication strategy and brand reputation are incorporated into all public relations and social media campaigns. This role is responsible for generating and managing engagements with media outlets and thought leadership activities to help present Thrivent to clients, partners/suppliers, investors, and decision makers across the organization. The role will interact across the organization to support the brand reputation and public relations aspects of Thrivent’s communication strategies.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the department’s strategy to enhance the organization’s reputation via public, news, and social media channels; promote Thrivent’s products, services and capabilities through interaction with journalists, speaking engagements/sponsorships, influencer campaigns and social media outlets, etc.Collaborate with key stakeholders within the business units and with external agency partners to evaluate, plan, and implement public relations strategies and tactics aligned to the company’s strategic priorities and business objectives,Advocate for, develop, execute and measure integrated, multi-channel communication strategies in alignment with other marketing, employee, and client communication initiatives; evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability of reputation management activities (i.e., media results, page views, open rates, etc.) and deliver reporting or insights to internal teams and leaders as appropriate.Key builder and contributor to the company's reputation through proactive and reactive media relations, issues/crisis management, public relations and thought leadership in collaboration with the Dir, Enterprise Reputation & Thought Leadership.Ensure thought leadership content is maximized and leveraged appropriately to drive corporate reputation of our brand.Partner with the Dir, Content on the development of and incorporation of Thrivent’s brand positioning for external communications as part of the content strategy and plan and ensures implementation of initiatives.Apply public relations best practices to assist in achieving organizational change leadership objectives.Anticipate and recognize stakeholder issues and manage the associated internal/external risks with advice and counsel and advise executives related to crisis and issue management that might have an impact on Thrivent’s reputation.Collaborate with the Brand Creative team to ensure alignment of verbal and visual messaging in collateral, presentations, video, and other communications.Quickly assess industry and company situations and translate them into effective, comprehensive communications that deliver Thrivent’s message and position to all pertinent audiences; proactively pitch Thrivent as a resource to external sources and provide news statements on business issues including managing, generating, and coordinating press releases for the company.Understand and apply best practices from other divisions and work groups (and from outside the organization) to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of communications.Collaborate with Enterprise Communications team to identify and engage in strategic speaking opportunities for Thrivent subject matter experts or executives; support leaders and colleagues with development of presentations and communications representing Thrivent’s point of view.Interact with and prepare executives relating to public relations in addition to issues management, etc.Act as company spokesperson to media on and off the record on behalf of Thrivent.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing or related field or equivalent work experienceApproximately 8 – 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, marketing or other related fieldDemonstrated leadership in developing strategic, multi-channel communication programs, and plansStrong relationship management, interpersonal, influencing and networking skillsWell-developed writing, editing and communication management skillsExperience in change leadership and management disciplines/principlesExperience working with web-based collaboration applications, interactive media and communication tools and/or internal/external social media platformsExperience working with internal/external communications and creative services vendorsSuperior written and verbal communications skills, including visual storytelling and message simplificationStrong executive presence and interpersonal, client consultation and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated success working effectively in cross-functional, matrixed teamsAbility to think strategically, work independently, manage time and resources, organize and prioritize work across multiple projects, attend to details and work within tight deadlinesProven agility and adaptability to changes in direction in a fast-paced working environment, including ability to flex to support priority initiatives as neededPreferred:
Advanced knowledge of a sales distribution network (financial advisors, insurance agencies or other independent contractor roles as part of a countrywide system).Advanced degree in mass communications, public relations or business managementProven knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services industry considered a plusPay Transparency
