Sr. Research & Development Scientist

The Senior R&D Scientist leads research and development of specialty silica and its applications. They drive research initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the commercialization of cutting-edge chemical products.

 

The Senior Scientist leverages their deep understanding of chemistry, materials science, and industrial applications to solve complex challenges and enhance product performance. They use their excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills to support business goals.

 

This role is on-site in Columbia, MD and reports to the Senior R&D Manager.

Responsibilities Lead research and development efforts for new product development, process improvements, and performance enhancements. Design and execute laboratory experiments, analyze data, and support scale-up recipes for commercialization. Identify and implement innovative technologies to improve product functionality, performance, and sustainability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process, marketing, regulatory, and sales to ensure product feasibility and market readiness. Develop technical reports, patents, and presentations to support internal knowledge sharing and intellectual property protection. Troubleshoot product-related issues, and provide technical support to customers. Maintain compliance with industry regulations and company policies, ensuring product safety and environmental sustainability. Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and competitive products in the specialty chemical industry. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in R&D within the chemical industry or related field. Demonstrated experience bringing projects from concept to commercialization Physical Requirements and Environment Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including but not limited to protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection. Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with hazardous materials. Preferred Qualifications Expertise in material synthesis, characterization, and process development. Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience with specialty silica.
