Sr Research Data Analyst (Agriculture)

The Senior Research Data Analyst spearheads initiatives to modernize data analysis for various seed breeding programs, including canola, soybean, cotton, rice, and wheat. This role will leverage expertise in applied crop breeding programs and product development to design and accurately analyze data for reporting in experimental trials.

 

What you will do:
 

Develop innovative strategies to expedite the analysis of agronomic and genetic data for various breeding groups. Provide programming support for decision tool development and optimize data management systems to enhance the efficiency of the breeding program. Engage with third-party providers to enhance software functionality and customization. Develop standards of operation when handling and archiving data. Continuously seek improvements in technology tools to complete work accurately and efficiently. Facilitate the Variety Registration process by implementing the Western Canada Canola Recommending Committee's procedures for data generation, submission, and coordination of field inspections. Play a key role in generating trial protocols and execution of assignments in small plot yield trials. Responsible for analyzing field data, delivering agronomic performance summaries for crop breeding groups, and ensuring accurate data storage in the Breeding database. Develop accurate, thorough, and timely raw data summaries for meaningful compilation. Lead and perform work in alignment with corporate policies, programs, and practices, including Safety, Health & Environment regulations and standards, to bring our Culture of Care to life.
 

What you will bring:
 

Bachelor’s Degree Agriculture, Agriculture Systems Technology, or related field is required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in design and analysis of small plot agricultural research. Valid driver’s license required for business related travel. Proficency in Microsoft, Word, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint. Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, mergers, data pulls). Advance critical thinking skills to analyze data accuracy to surface trends and relationships. Comprehensive understanding of statistical analysis (Basic ANOVA, Nearest Neighbor). Expertise in statistical programming languages (R, SAS, MATLAB, Python etc.) and ability to code in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, etc.). Demonstrated proficiency in field trial design methodology, particularly design and layout. In depth understanding of agricultural production practices for western Canadian crops. Effectively articulate data concepts with breeders and agronomists in troubleshooting scenarios. Proficient in managing multiple projects and competing priorities with numerous stakeholders. A Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree is considered an asset. Possession of a project management certification is advantageous. Prior experience with Genovix database software is beneficial.
