Sr Research Scientist / Cancer Systems Imaging (Manning)
MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Senior Research Scientist is to assist the Principal Investigator with scientific research projects. The Senior Research Scientist functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. Designs, develops, or adapts published procedures used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data, and develops/revises techniques or approaches to solve problems. Plans training and research work activity for assigned laboratory and research personnel. Supervises the use of laboratory equipment and implements safety procedures. Compiles, writes and submits project results to Superiors.

Experimental Design

• Work with Principal Investigator and his team to design and execute the synthesis of organic compounds for therapeutic and imaging applications.
• Carry out the purification of synthetic products and confirm their structure by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and/or mass spectrometry. Perform compound characterization as required.
• At the request of the Principal Investigator determine specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluate research data, and develop/revise techniques or approaches to solve problems.

Research Management

• Organize, coordinate, and performs scientific research. Function in a separate and independent manner.
• Monitor synthetic organic chemistry operations and ensure a safe chemistry environment.
• Supervise the use of laboratory equipment and implement safety procedures.

Data Collection and Analysis

• Utilize NMR/MR software such as MestreNova or TopSpin to process data.
• Use Excel, or other software packages to analyze experimental data and prepare data for publications and grant proposals through formatting, editing, and statistical analysis. Generate publication ready figures.
• Compile, write, and submit experimental results for patent, publication, and grant writing purposes.

Data Presentation and Manuscript Preparation

Record all documentation for synthetic procedures and compound analysis for publication, intellectual property documentation, and for compliance.
• Interpret and report research findings to Principal Investigator. As requested, make presentations at internal and external meetings.
• As requested, compile, write, and submit project results and reports to superiors
