Job Description:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience such as public relations, corporate communications, or journalism Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, journalism or other related field preferred

Work Experiences:

3+ years of related work experience in related field or role such as PR agency, corporate communications, media relations

Skills:

Ability to Manage projects effectively and work with cross-functional team membersEffective listening, writing and oral communication skillsAbility to prioritize, solve problems independently and work effectively under pressure when necessaryDetail oriented, proven organizational skillsTeam player at all levelsExcellent customer service skillsWork independently and contribute to team projectsProficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook or similar e-mail system, and media monitoring softwareAcceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

Responsibilities:

Partner with Public Relations Manager, Community Relations Manager, and Regional Marketing to ensure community programs, brand activations, and initiatives obtain maximum exposure via media and social media where necessaryBuild and maintain strong relationships with key journalists and editors on local and national levelsProactively pitch newsworthy company stories, initiatives, and expert insights to secure placementsServe as company spokesperson in multiple forms of media, i.e. TV, print, radio, social mediaResponsible for the training of media spokespeople including store directors and managers as well as key internal stakeholdersAssist with execution of strategic communications plans for seasonal campaigns, new store openings, product launches, and special eventsAssist with developing and delivering a measurable earned media strategy that supports Academy’s growthResponsible for all earned media and crisis communication efforts for assigned marketsMonitor media coverage to track public relations efforts, analyze its impact on brand perception, and report earned media metrics to cross-functional partnersProvide media and brand reputation counsel to internal stakeholdersProject management for new store openings and seasonal retail campaignsSupport the Public Relations ManagerOversee distribution of press releases, media alerts, social media and other content to mediaRequired to learn company policies, procedures, and safety rulesDuties may change and team members may be required to perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements & Attendance:

Regular attendance requiredUp to 25% travel with overnight stay
