The Senior Specialist, Trade Compliance is responsible for enforcing company-wide compliance with US Customs Regulations and internal policies/procedures concerning the import and export of goods which protects Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont against Custom's fines and penalties and ensures the ability to import goods into the US and Export goods out of the US.
This role ensures regulatory requirements and proper documentation, including transit documents and customs clearances exists for import and export shipments. The incumbent develops and maintains successful relationships with vendors (e.g., freight forwarders, custom brokers, etc.) and acts as a Key SME in the area to support and lead process improvements.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesReviews import surveys for accuracy and assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) number in accordance with U.S. Customs regulations. The import survey is critical to the US import compliance function, and it must be accurate to avoid 20% monetary penalties and to ensure Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont import privileges are not revoked. The inability to import Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont products into the US would have a severe impact of Boehringer Ingelheim US's overall business.
Facilitates, maintains, and monitors import databases, including reviewing for potential duties savings and process improvements, coordination, and upkeep of Import Survey workspace. The import databases are audited by US Customs and must be accurate.
Acts as intermediary and primary point of contact between in-house personnel and Customs Broker on all import/export transactions.
Resolves irregularities or ambiguous information for individual import transactions as needed.
Prepares all necessary data entry and confirmation of key milestones (departure, arrival, customs clearance, PODs, etc.)
Responsible for authoring cGMP Standard Procedures.
Assesses company training risk and identifies appropriate solutions; manages training roll-out for company-wide programs and specific department-based training.
Manages annual security self-assessment in accordance with C-TPAT Program.
Maintains C-TPAT certification and audit readiness, coordinate re-validations with Security Partner as required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, monitors security criteria "best practices" and makes internal recommendations in alignment with Boehringer Ingelheim policies.
Responsible for auditing customs brokerage and shipment transactions and files. Expertise in multiple areas of import and export laws such as HTS Classification, Country of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, Customs Valuation.
Directly responsible for taking corrective action when there are issues with non-compliance.
Supports internal audit and responsible writing and updating Customs Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).

Associates degree in Science, Business, or related discipline with eight (8) years of pharmaceutical or related industry experience.OR
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Business, or related discipline with six (6) years of experience in pharmaceutical or related industryOR

Eligibility Requirements:
This position offers a base salary typically between (90,000) and (147,000). There is opportunity to consider higher compensation above this range based on business need, candidate experience and or skills.
