GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Our Senior Staff Engineer works with our Staff and Sr. Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in their domain.
Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Staff Engineer, you will:
Focus on multiple areas and provide technical and thought leadership to the enterpriseCollaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problemsDevelop and execute technical software development strategy for a variety of domainsAccountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutionsUtilize programming languages like Java, Python, or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and servicesBe a role model and mentor, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. Influence and educate executivesConsistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsAnalyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plansDetermine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, and demonstrate adaptability and sponsoring continuous learningQualificationsExemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmapExperience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to productionTrack-record of publications history in credible conferences and journalsExperience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as codeIn-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsExperience solving analytical problems with quantitative approachesAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentKnowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)Fluency and Specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, Python, or C# including object-oriented designExperience with Micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST or GraphQL APIsExperience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systemsFluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational FrameworkExperience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure PortalExperience with application monitoring tools and performance assessmentsIn depth knowledge of Datacenter structure, capabilities and offerings, including the Azure platform, and its native services including the Azure platform and its native servicesExperience in security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuthExperience10+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers and Java)8+ years of experience with architecture and design6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks4+ years of experience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud strategies3+ years of experience designing modern web applications (React, etc) is a plus3+ years of experience deploying AI/ML models (Tensor, PyTorch, etc) is also a plusEducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary
$115,000.00 - $300,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
