Sr. Accountant

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing a variety of complex accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, and audit preparation. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Primary position responsibilities include:

Participate in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.  Assist in the preparation of financial statements.  Manage the general ledger, accounts payable and, accounts receivable functionsAssist the Assistant Controller in the preparation of the required audit schedules and supporting documentation as requested for the interim audit work and the annual audit of the university's financial statements.  Oversee the monthly activity and prepare the required schedules for the programs that make up the Single Audit section of the financial report. Work with external departments (Student Financial Services, Advancement, auxiliary venues) to obtain and review requested schedules for annual audit as needed.Prepare the monthly Tennessee sales tax on non tax-exempt sales. Work closely with the revenue generating departments (including bookstore, entertainment venues, etc.) to review and ensure accurate reporting of income for taxation. Provide accounting and/or internal control and procedure assistance/guidance as needed.Prepare the annual endowment payout schedules, working in association with University Advancement, Student Financial Services and, Admissions to provide accurate and timely endowment spending amounts available for scholarship use for the upcoming academic year.Oversee the daily activity of endowments/grant - post awards and coordinate with the Office of Sponsored programs to ensure accurate and timely submission of grant invoicing and reporting.Assist university departmental staff in troubleshooting and procedural or accounting related issues with their submissions.The above statements describe the job’s essential responsibilities and requirements.  They are not an exhaustive list of the duties that may be assigned to job incumbents.
