Welcome to the role of Sr. Aerial Construction Technician – Fiber Optics. In this position, you will string and maintain fiber optic cable, which includes pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines. This individual will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines.  This position requires proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position provides leadership in the field and is able to perform and direct more complex assignments. The work performed will be within communications and power spaces.

 

This individual understands each product and manages the improvement of operational efficiency. They must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces for this position.

What You'll Do Safely perform work in communication and energized spaces Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cabRecord and report the sequential foot marks by the operator or groundmanAssist when needed to pull and hand off hardwareResponsible for framing polesPull cable, strand, fiber, and lash, for extended periods of time Provide framing and attachment hardware for operator, jack down guys, pull lasherAttend the reel to ensure uniform deployment of strand and fiber optic cable Monitor basic gauges to determine tension and pressure on the cable linesMonitor cable during installs for appropriate tension during critical turning points and transitionsRecognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards such as missing and/or degraded parts and hardwareIdentify the location of and direct the navigation of the crew into Energized Spaces Participate in pre-construction surveys and ride-outs to inform project strategyRead, interpret, and modify design packagesResponsible for completing time and material (T&M) documentationComplete documentation to include record-keeping, billing, inventory, etc.Complete daily close of business (COB) reports for customersResponsible to communicate directly with customersResponsible for leading multiple crews simultaneouslyEnsure work is performed and projects are completed to engineering and design specificationsProvide training for climbers in tasks including body placement and equipment inspectionsOversee 3rd party optical ground wire (OPGW) installationPerform minor field repairs on equipment (i.e., reel trailer, bucket and placer truck, and winder trailer)Lead, mentor, and train field personnelProvide feedback and input for employee performance reviews

Working Conditions

Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneelClimb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spacesWork indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditionsAble to walk long distancesAble to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance What You'll Bring 5+ years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferredMastery of Aerial Construction Technician II Job DutiesParticipate in work requiring pole climbingRecognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards such as missing and or degraded parts and hardwareIdentify the location of and direct the navigation of the crew into Energized Spaces Monitor and maintain min/max truck stock materialsPerform minor field repairs on equipment (i.e., reel trailer, bucket and placer truck, and winder trailer)Provide leadership and successfully complete leadership tasks assigned in the fieldResponsible for leading projects or crewsRead and interpret design packagesResponsible for completing time and material (T&M) documentationProvide guidance in the proper use and wearing of job-specific PPE Assist with 3rd party optical ground wire (OPGW) installation oversightLead and mentor less experienced coworkersLead team members as required in the absence of a Sr. Technician or ManagerValid Driver’s License is required CDL A/B preferredProficient with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, man lift, cable puller, and reel stands Experience operating small equipment experience (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)Flagger Certification requiredTraffic Control Manager Certification preferredMust be comfortable working at elevated heights and confined spacesAbility to climb poles up to 40’ using standard safety protocolsQualify as an Electrically Qualified Communication LinemanQualify in rigging (ex.
