Sr. Analyst, Labor Planning & Forecasting
About the Team There are a lot of activities that happen in our stores so we have a strong cross-functional team focused on doing Anything for Pets by supporting the store teams through effective communications, processes and initiatives. The Store Strategy & Operations department leads the way to support all store activities and define business-driving strategies. The Workforce, Insights & Planning team owns labor optimization and reporting needs. The Operations & Innovation team owns merchandise execution, process improvement, compliance, store technology and innovation. And the Strategy team leads all the business-driving efforts for Salon, PetsHotel, Pet Training and In-store customer experience. These teams work diligently to ensure our associates, pets and pet parents are supported, while operating efficiently to drive the business. About the Location Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs. About the Job This role works in the Phoenix Home Office SUMMARY This position is responsible for completing activities that execute the budgeting and forecasting of store labor in the Store Strategy & Operations to meet company financial and operational goals. This position is also responsible for analyzing and reporting on labor data in order to ensure stores have the right labor at the right time and are using labor in an effective and productive manner. Activities must be accomplished within agreed upon budget while meeting or exceeding the business and financial goals of the company. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not supervise associates ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: Completes the day-to-day execution of labor budgeting, forecasting, trend & ad-hoc analysis and maintenance of financial labor models to positively impact performance for all stores. Exhibits budget adherence to departmental or enterprise labor financial plans/forecasts by monitoring labor costs for the distinct PetSmart Businesses (Core and Services). Partners with various PHO departments to ensure stores have the adequate capacity to complete any proposed or planned projects/initiatives Reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department progress toward stated goals and objectives. Provides in-depth analysis on drivers and drainers to gauge performance of plan & forecast on a week, period, and year timeline; exhibits an ability to think critically and investigate answers independently. Works closely as a trusted partner with other departments throughout the organization, including Finance, to ensure sales and labor forecasts/actuals are in alignment with plan and support strategic initiatives. Streamlines financial processes, reporting, and communication to make team and business more productive through available resources and systems. Acts as the liaison with business partners through the planning process to incorporate and model out labor impacts through special activity requests Efficiently allocates and manages ad-hoc labor allocations per the request of business partners and business needs Establish and maintain strong relationships with business partners and Store Ops personnel. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Finance, Analytics or related field or 5-8 years of relevant experience; Preferred candidates will have one or more year's related experience in labor planning and forecasting. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY / DIMENSIONS This position has direct responsibility shared with one or more individuals that clearly impacts the budget. Responsible for the supporting development and management of an annual labor budgets of > $1B. COMPLEXITY AND PROBLEM-SOLVING Work tasks are complex and substantial analysis is required along with independent problem solving. Implied Authority - The Labor Team does not have any direct authority over the stores. Strong relationships and effective communication is imperative in keeping labor spending in line with budget expectations. It is necessary to work directly with Field Leadership (AVP, RVP, DL) to indirectly influence the utilization of this asset in our stores. TECHNICAL SKILLS Must be able to translate ambiguous data or requests into action and results. Must have excellent written and oral communications skills. Must be proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite including intermediate to advanced Excel and Access application skills. Must have strong business and financial acumen, including intermediate to advanced finance skills (i.e. budgeting and forecasting). CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None required.
