Sr. Assistant City Engineer - Development

JOB SUMMARY\n

The City Engineer performs highly responsible engineering work of an administrative and technical nature directing activities of the Engineering Division. The employee is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the engineering and subdivision development. The City Engineer is responsible for: policy implementation, development of short-and long-range goals and objectives, development and implementation of all City ordinances for ongoing and future development. Work is performed with considerable independence within the framework of established procedures, City and departmental policies.\n

QUALIFICATIONS\n

Education and Experience:\n

Bachelor's degree in related fields and five years of civil engineering experience, some of which are with a municipality, or equivalent combination of education and experience.\n

Special Requirements:\n

Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas; certified as Floodplain Manager. Certification as a Professional Land Surveyor preferred. Familiarity with various types of engineering software is preferred.\n

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: \n\nKnowledge to perform and review all calculations for design, computer programs, utilizing specifications and setting standards.\nAbility to sit for a long periods time, preparing plans and reviewing engineering plans submitted by others for public infrastructure improvements.\nAbility to go to the jobsite to participate in surveys, field observations and walk over construction sites for observation and data, when necessary.\nAbility to work with other subordinates to accomplish the project management goal of surveying, designing, planning, platting, reviewing and specification preparation.\nAbility to participate, foster and encourage all members of the division to work as members of a team.\nAbility to supervise contractors, prepare payments and perform final inspection for project finalization.\nAbility to review plats in compliance with City Codes and to Subdivisions Ordinance. Communicate with owners' engineers and forward comments to them on engineering matters.\nAbility to attend the Planning Commission meetings to provide an explanation of engineering issues.\nMakes presentations before various groups, including City Council, Commissions and professional and public meetings, as needed.\n\n

PHYSICAL DEMANDS\n

The work is light work and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and\/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: hearing, mental acuity, speaking, repetitive motions, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.\n

Starting salary for this position is $54.538 hourly \/ $113,438 annually.\n
