Description Robert Half Management Resources is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Job Costing Auditor on an interim basis with one of our professional service clients. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and optimizing job cost records by comparing recorded costs against receipts, invoices, and other supporting documentation. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in job costing processes while identifying potential discrepancies or inefficiencies. The Job Costing Auditor will collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and finance professionals to manage costs and improve profitability. Responsibilities: • Audit and reconcile job cost records by comparing recorded costs against receipts, invoices, and purchase orders to ensure proper documentation and expense classification. • Investigate discrepancies between recorded costs and actual documentation, working closely with internal teams to resolve issues. • Evaluate job cost variances by comparing budgeted versus actual costs, identifying root causes of deviations, and providing actionable insights. • Analyze labor allocation, material costs, and overhead expenses to confirm alignment with project goals and budget expectations. • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and regulatory standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS). • Identify areas of potential non-compliance or risks, including misclassification or fraudulent activities, and recommend corrective actions. • Proactively review and refine job costing workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency in tracking costs. • Develop best practices and provide training to the operations and accounting teams on accurate documentation and cost allocation. • Validate job-related financial transactions, including procurement records, timesheets, and expense reports, to ensure they align with project and company standards. • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting by ensuring job cost data is complete and accurate. • Prepare comprehensive audit reports that detail findings, highlight variances, and provide actionable recommendations to improve cost controls. • Present audit outcomes and strategic recommendations to management and key stakeholders. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. CPA, CMA, or similar certification is strongly preferred. • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in auditing, cost accounting, or job costing roles. • Experience in construction, manufacturing, or project-based environments is a plus. • Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and other data analysis tools. • Experience with job costing software or ERP solutions is highly desirable. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
