Sr. Automation Engineer

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The process automation engineer will work as a member of the Process Automation Department at Eli Lilly, Limerick. The engineer will provide automation support for one or more operating areas across site and/or for capital projects. The engineer will provide Automation, Process Controls and Data Analysis expertise and support for one or more operating areas across site and/or for capital projects.

Personal Considerations:

As the Limerick site operates on a 24/7 basis, the job may involve contact out of hours to provide technical assistance, possible non-scheduled call-in time to respond to plant emergencies and occasional scheduled call-in time to provide technical cover during technical transfers and major project activity (e.g. commissioning). Additionally, offsite travel, either within Ireland or abroad may occasionally be required for short durations to attend meetings, visit vendor’s facilities or to receive training.

Educational Requirements:

Degree in Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics and Instrumentation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering or qualifications in other relevant engineering discipline with appropriate experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day operation's support related to the site control systems. This includes working with Technical Services and Operations personnel to trouble shoot issues, making changes to the control systems in line with site change control procedures and site standards, responding to system events and performing routine computer system maintenance checksDevelop and possess a deep understanding of the process design for their specific process area by working closely with client Process Engineers and Operations RepresentativesProject activities include:Participate in early project initiation activities to scope and assess automation  aspectTechnically lead and manage work performed by System Integrators including Functional Requirements Specifications, Design Specifications, Design drawing and P&IDs, DCS Application Software, S88 software design, Test Specifications.Lead/Participate in design reviews and DeltaV application software reviewsAttend equipment and software FATsLead a team of automation engineers supporting commissioningProvide periodic status updates to ManagementDevising functional requirements and process control strategies for control systems in collaboration with Process EngineeringDCS software design, coding/configuration and testing (sequence logic, graphics, batch software etc.)Project Management of automation projectsProcess Control Engineering including design, tuning and troubleshooting of control loopsImplementing and supporting electronic systems (such as plant historians) used to capture process automation related production dataMaintain the validated state of the site control systems in line with Lilly quality standards including the development and execution of validation strategies and associated documentationAutomation support for capital projects including new product introductionsPromoting the use of automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency and complianceDeveloping a ‘network’ of corporate contacts and leveraging corporate expertise when neededInteracting with external parties (e.g. vendors, consortiums)In carrying out his/her responsibilities, the role is expected to work very closely with a wide spectrum of disciplines/people.

Role Requirements:

5 years working experience in Biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturingDemonstrated ability to participate in and facilitate decision-making.Demonstrated initiative, good planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks, commitment to task completion and timelines.Possess a keen technical curiosity and has demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and a desire for continuous improvementStrong collaborative skills with an ability to work effectively in a team environmentDemonstrated ability to influence peers and business partnersDemonstrated strong written and verbal communications skillsGood written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiencesKnowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validationPreferableProcess Engineering experienceExperience in DCS batch automation designInstrumentation knowledgeExperience with Kneat electronic testing
