You will have end to end accountability in overseeing the preparation and alignment of a multi-year budget and expense plans of all corporate staff functions and create strong partnerships with business unit expense teams to align with Nationwide's strategic and operating plans. We’ll count on you to drive financial excellence across the organization.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Participates in the development of strategic plans and direction related to all corporate finance spend across corporate staff functions including Technology, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and Customer, Strategy and Innovation.
Oversees the preparation of the multi-year budget and expense plans to align with Nationwide Strategic and Operating Plans, and performance targets. Tracks Corporate staff spending compared to annual budgets, adjust spending as needed throughout the year, and analyze/report on expenses compared to budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
Oversees the enterprise portfolio management process including the portfolio planning process for the enterprise, establishing enterprise policy for portfolio planning, developing business case best practices and conducting peer review/postmortems.
Responsible for developing standardized financial reporting across each portfolio, as well as run, on a pre-and-post allocated basis.
Provides oversight and leadership of planning and forecasting for corporate staff functions.
Develops detailed analysis to assist leadership’s understanding of the bottom-line results. Maintains responsibility for the development of the annual operating plan.
Responsible for the review and management of financial performance and viability of corporate staff functions including decision support modeling for labor and non-labor decisions.
Serves as primary contact for all operational and financial audits.
Oversees and leads associate management including performance management, talent management, engagement, salary planning and administration, development, and talent acquisition.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP. Leads a team of four or more direct reports and approximately fifty indirect reports.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting preferred. Graduate degree desired.
License/Certification/Designation: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Experience: Typically, ten or more years of experience in financial services with an emphasis on finance, accounting, expense management and/or business operations. A minimum five years of people leadership background is preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a focus on building and developing high-performing teams. Ability to make difficult decisions and facilitate effectively in a team setting. Ability to develop strong relationships within the organization. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and strategic planning. Demonstrated continuous improvement skills including the ability to align with organizational goals.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
