This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

As a member of the Collection team, you will be responsible to maximize payments on unpaid Premium balances for Business Insurance and Personal Insurance.  The Senior Billing Specialist interacts directly with our internal and external customers through a variety of channels.

On a typical day, a Senior Billing Specialist welcomes incoming calls, makes outbound phone calls, reviews and responds to incoming emails, manages non-phone assignments, and collaborates with Premium Audit, Agents and Brokers, Underwriting and Service Operations departments to resolve premium disputes.  

Responsibilities:

Contacts customers with overdue accounts and attempts to either collect in full or negotiate a payment planManage multiple delinquent accounts for debt collection effortsAnalyzes accounts to determine risk on unpaid account balancesLeverages internet searches or other tools to attempt to locate customers who have moved or changed phones numbersResolves customer discrepancy and complaints concerning billingDetermines the cost benefit of pursuing 3rd party collection effortsProvides a frictionless customer experience

Qualifications:

Prior Collections experience a plusPersonal Lines experience a plusExperience in Business Insurance and/or Personal InsuranceProfessional verbal and written communication skills.Has a high attention to detail including active listening skills and complete documentation review.Always maintains business etiquette and displays empathyStrong influencing ability that aids in the recovery and resolution of unpaid premiumsPersistence in challenging situations to achieve desired outcomesAbility to use strategic thinking to negotiate payments and increase collection effectivenessPossesses strong ability to identify process opportunities and work through root cause problem solvingProven history of excellent collaboration and teamworkFlexibility and adaptability to succeed in a fast-paced environment

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$51,760 - $77,640
