Senior Calibration Technician is the highest-level technician position within Transcat with a minimum of six (6) years commercial calibration experience preferred. Calibration Technicians at this level typically can calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust higher-level equipment across a minimum of eight (8) disciplines, with expert knowledge in three (3) disciplines (e.g., Electrical, Dimensional, or Pressure). Proficiency and expertise are determined in accordance with Transcat’s technician skills progression matrix. A Senior Calibration Technician will be capable of completing work independently within the lab or onsite at a customer location, with limited or no guidance. CCT or CMT certification is desired for this role.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform calibration work with little to no supervisionConduct independent research when necessaryCoordinate and manage daily workloads without direction from the service managerIdentify and utilize appropriate measurement techniquesMaintain calibration standardsUnderstand and apply uncertainties to measurements madeRead and interpret labs’ scopes of accreditationWork effectively with lab support staffWorking knowledge and competency in eight (8) disciplines and expert in three (3) disciplines preferredPerform calibrations within a laboratory or customer onsite setting Work at customer on-sites with little to no directionFulfill duties safely under working conditions, in keeping with Company requirements and standardsOther duties as assignedTravel requirement: up to 50% of work schedule

 

Primary Objectives

Call upon high-level skills, techniques, and processes to calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust a high volume of high-level equipment with few errors Coordinate work schedule for the labPrepare detailed analysis of calibration processes and uncertaintiesDevelop and implement process improvementsDevelop team lead skills and responsibilities Train and advise lower-level technicians Deliver on Transcat’s Quality Policy (QAC-F01-001) Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications

Successful completion of assigned training materials through on-the-job training, online content, LMS, and classroom led instructionElite interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent attention to detailSelf-motivated learner with the ability to learn new skills related to calibration and calibration processesAbility to take direction and learn from feedbackAbility to communicate well with supervisor, solve problems effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team3+ years driving experience with a valid driver's license and acceptable driver history

Education and Experience

Required: Associates degree from college or technical school; or six+ (6+) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Preferred:

Six+ (6+) years of commercial calibration experience CCT or CMT certificationExtensive statistical backgroundAdvanced proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software including, Word, Excel, and OutlookAdvanced organizational and time management skillsExperience in PMEL, PME, TMDE, Metrology, Calibration, ASQ CCT, METCAL, GPETE, Electronics, GCAMS, or Avionics

 

Physical Demands

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally will be required to lift up to 75 lbs.

 

Work Environment

The work environment described here is representative of what an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
