Sr. Counsel Employment Litigation (Hybrid: Onsite and Remote Work)

The position will serve as employment litigation counsel for the Company actively managing employment litigation matters for a growing, complex public company. The Sr. Counsel, Employment Litigation will manage and oversee outside counsel on litigation matters, personally handle attorney demand letters and federal, state and local agency charges with minimal oversight, and will directly work with internal and external clients to assess litigation risk and determine strategies for mitigating those risks (both proactively and within the context of litigation).

This position has been segmented as Hybrid meaning there is a combination of three onsite days and the rest remote.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with and provides direction to Associate General Counsel, Employment & Compliance on employment litigation matters and significant pre-litigation claims.

Represent the Company in responding to demand letters and federal, state and local agency charges with minimal oversight.

Manage and oversee outside counsel on employment litigation matters and proactively drive litigation strategy on these matters.

Provide guidance to the Company, Human Resources, and management teams on employment litigation matters and significant pre-litigation claims.

Learn the business and broader industry, to diagnose legal problems in the employment context, and present positive, creative solutions and alternatives for management.  Experience making practical risk assessments in a way that balances legal obligations and business needs.

Able to manage multiple projects, to stay calm and focused and work successfully in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.

Establish a rapport and working relationship with teammates at all levels in order to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel.

Perform special assignments or projects as assigned by the Associate General Counsel and/or Assistant General Counsel, Region Employment.

Relationships:

Internal: Legal Team Leaders, Human Resources, Senior Management, and Business Unit Leaders.

External: External counsel and federal, state, and local regulatory authorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three to six years of experience focused on employment litigation, with particular experience handling single plaintiff and class/collective action employment litigation, EEOC and state agency charges, and pre-litigation demand letters.

Education:

An undergraduate degree and law degree with academic achievement from nationally recognized institutions. 

Licenses:

Admission to and in good standing with a U.S. state bar association.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior in-house counsel experience preferred.

Universal Pay Verbiage:

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law.  The expected base rate for this role is between $110,000 - $180,000

This role will also receive an annual incentive plan bonus and a long-term incentive plan.
