  About the role

You’re excited about a career in data-driven marketing with a fast-growing company. You have a passion for creating a great customer experience through email, push notifications, and other marketing channels.  You have a tendency to sign up for email subscriptions despite your overflowing inbox simply because you don’t want to miss a great email campaign.  You love to learn, are curious about new tools and technology, and have an extreme eye for detail.  You are resourceful and have a track record of getting stuff done. 

As part of a team, you’ll work with the highest engagement marketing channel.  You will build email and push marketing campaigns and product communications across our retail and 401(k) business. You will work closely with various teams to set up and monitor segmented and personalized email communication with our 900,000+ customers.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below, we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and interview performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

New York City: $90,000 - $105,000

This job is eligible for variable compensation in the form of a discretionary company incentive bonus.  For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in-office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

A day in the life Support and maintain customer-centric campaigns across the entire customer lifecycle, including lead nurture, onboarding, and retention Execute campaigns across various channels (email, push notification, in-app messaging)  Collaborate with marketing managers, copywriters, designers, and compliance to create new campaigns Set up A/B tests for new email & push campaigns to determine incremental lift Build targeted, personalized drip campaigns on our CRM platforms Perform rigorous quality assurance testing and proofing to ensure there are no errors Monitor the system daily and fix problems as they crop up, occasionally working with engineering teams to solve these problems What we’re looking for A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a marketing role (preferably in retention) Extraordinary attention to detail An ability to think creatively about how to approach problems An understanding of the customer voice and customer needs Experience collaborating well with other teams, including internal departments and third-party vendors Willingness to learn how to use new tools and develop new skills as needed Prior experience working with an ESP (e.g. Braze, Hubspot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, or other) Experience working with HTML and CSS in email Bonus points if you have: SQL skills Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets skills (vlookup and pivot tables) What being at Betterment means for you

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of  applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
