SUMMARY
The Senior Database Administrator will also assist in developing database strategies, monitoring processes, improving database performance and capacity planning for future expansion requirements. May participate and contribute to architectural decisions. They develop system testing strategies, monitor testing efforts, and test complex operating environments and database management systems in compliance with department standards. This position will also assist with the analysis of complex technical system problems, and design and implement effective solutions. This position is expected to work closely with external service partners to plan and coordinate activities, either project-related or managed services, as necessary.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide first-level application support: Resolve problems and answer questions related to the Oracle RDBMS and MS SQL platform environment; contact vendor support when necessary; facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiencyIdentify and implement team operational efficiencies by automation & process improvement opportunities and / or implementing new technologies.Database performance monitoring and tuning: Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiencyMaintain database backup/recovery environment: Respond quickly to refresh data; verify implementation of correct backup strategy, develop recovery procedures; support recovery from loss of data caused by user or system errorInstall and upgrade Oracle RDBMS, MS SQL and related products: Keep environments at current release and maintenance levels; provide current & stable production and development environmentsReorganize database structures as needed: Automate procedures at regular intervals; use tools to reorganize or de-fragment database table spaces, tables, and indexes; provide efficient database environment to maximize productivity and improve performancePerform database refreshes upon request: refresh data from one environment to another at the request of the application development staff, execute necessary tasks to accomplish this, to minimize impact provide application development staff optimal development environment with current dataProvide assistance in database design as needed: Research and recommend optimal design criteria; publish standards and work with development staff standardize environment and improve efficiencyExperience working closely with a matrix team consisting of employees, contractors, and vendors with various skills and disciplinesAbility to work with application groups to determine those requirements.Performance tuning experience including performance issue identification and tuning.When technical issues are escalated internally, you are able to work until resolution.Clearly articulate requirements, issues, project status, etc. to non-technical management personnel.Identify and communicate licensing, sizing, upgrades, etc. requirements to technology vendorsStandard DBA tasks – installation, space management, backup & recovery, patching, upgrades, etc. within database environments.Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.Mentoring of junior Database AdministratorsAssist with developing and maintaining a DBA technical roadmap including proposals for financial capital planningWrites and maintains documentation for standard proceduresQUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process. Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $99,216 to $153,784 per year.
