Job Description

The Senior Design Engineer will be involved with a variety of engineering initiatives that focus on New Product Development (NPD), VAVE, and continuous improvement of existing products to exceed customer expectations, national standards, and internal requirements for quality, cost, and manufacturability within the Zurn product lines.

Key AccountabilitiesDesign mechanical components and systems for NPD initiatives related to the following product lines: backflow preventers, pressure reducing valves, automatic control valves, and fire protection products.Direct involvement in all aspects of product development, including ideation, prototyping, design verification, and production validation.Drive innovative idea generation by obtaining real-world exposure to Zurn product installations through job site and customer visits, and incorporate ideas into new product designs.Evaluate customer feedback, customer requirements, existing product designs, and performance standards to support the development of new products.Research, make recommendations, and execute product design enhancements or modifications to support cost reduction and quality improvementsCollaborate with engineers and lab technicians to develop and execute in-house validation tests and field test programsObtain third party product listings and certifications for new productsCollaborate with the drafting/design team to properly document all new designs within the document control system, including 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and technical literature.Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.Any other job duties as assigned; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Qualifications/RequirementsBS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field 7+ years of relevant experienceDemonstrated history of designing products with a high degree of creativityStrong 2D drawing and 3D modeling skills.  AutoCAD Inventor experience a plus.Ability to manage multiple projects at one timeHands-on mechanical aptitude in a test lab environmentWorking knowledge of mechanical and elastomeric components, such as fasteners, springs, o-rings and sealsUnderstanding of fluid mechanics and hydraulic calculationsAbility to work proficiently on cross functional teams to achieve product development goalsDemonstrated ability to develop and execute action plansExperience with valves, fittings, foundry castings, metal machining, and plastic injection molding desiredFamiliarity with third party certification agencies, such as Underwriters Laboratories, desiredFEA and CFD experience a plusExperience with overseas sourcing and manufacturing a plusSome domestic or international travel may be requiredCapabilities and Success FactorsCultivates Innovation – Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successfulDrives Results – Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstancesBeing Resilient – Rebounding from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situationsManages Complexity – Making sense of complex, high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problemsValues Differences – Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization

Salary Range: The compensation range(s) identified below are a good faith estimate of the salary expected to be paid as performed from these locations. Actual salaries may vary based on a variety of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, education and training; and other relevant business and organizational factors. Most candidates will start in the lower half of the range.
