The Development Engineer is the primary point of contact for the Design Engineering group in the implementation of design for development programs.  Development Engineers function as centers of expertise in manufacturing systems and best practices, including line setups, part and material flow, personnel and machinery optimization, ergonomics, and failure mode analysis.  Development Engineer responsibilities include writing work instructions, implementing industry best practices (lean concepts, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, constraint analysis, etc.), conducting Job Safety and ergonomic analysis, and leading failure mode analysis activities.  Additionally, Development Engineers are integral in developing line layouts and capacity analysis and are heavily involved with the implementation of improvements related to production flow, tooling, facilities, material and common design areas across products, and product performance for development programs.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Develop and maintain manufacturing flow charts, work instructions, manufacturing BOM's, routings and MRP related activities.Manufacturing methods, tooling and equipment, PFMEA and Lean ManufacturingManufacturing mainline floor support, including Failure Analysis from piece part through system analysisProduction support for Engineering development, design for manufacturing, and transition to manufacturing.Assisting in bids, improving and developing new products.Employ strong analytical skills; especially driving to root cause when completing failure analysis, determining best practice methodologies for manufacturing, and determining key process failure modes 

Required Skills:

Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.  Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.Minimum of Bachelor's degree in industrial/mechanical engineering and 7+ years of experience, or equivalent studies

Desired Skills:

Strong skills in design analysis and design for manufacturingMust be a team player with good communication skills Must have strong computer skills and be especially proficient in MS Office  Proficient at dimensional and tolerance analysis from part level through system level Must be willing to travel to various test sites and supplier locations. Experience with electronic components, printed circuit boards and circuit card assemblies Significant experience and familiarity with manufacturing best practices (lean concepts, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, constraint analysis, etc.) and their applicationWorking knowledge and experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data-driven analytics
