Job Summary
The Senior Director will play a pivotal role in the integration of the BWH and MGH Pathology departments, as well as the continued integration of the MGB Pathology enterprise. The position participates in MGB Pathology committees and leads enterprise-level initiatives as assigned. The role includes operations, strategic planning, people management/human resources, and budget oversight. The role requires strong management skills and a collaborative approach in working together with staff and local institutional leaders to ensure that the laboratory and pathology operations meet the needs of local clinicians while also aligning with enterprise standards and approach.
Qualifications
1. Oversees coordination of the clinical, anatomic pathology and molecular laboratories, along with the blood transfusion services, of academic and specialy hospitals of MGB. Represents the academic medical center operations in enterprise strategy and implementation and in integration of clinical services with organizations within the MGB Community division. Facilitates consistency and coordination in human resources activities such as job titles, staffing and compensation.
2. Provides enterprise oversight and leadership on key service strategies and initiatives.
3. Works closely with clinical Division Chiefs and departmental faculty leaders to develop and maintain operations that support strategies of Enterprise Pathology, the needs of patients and Pathology faculty, and the integration of academic departments
4. Participates in a leadership role with work groups advancing AMC and enterprise integration. Helps to develop the enterprise strategy for clinical services and communicates vision. Works to ensure that direction of Integrated Lab Services work groups aligns with overall goals of the MGB organization
5. Hires and works with operational directors at academic and specialty hospitals and helps to develop and position leaders for success. Provides performance review input on annual basis. Promote productivity benchmarking – assists in development of benchmarking data, analyzes performance and works to identify opportunities and best practices.
6. Determines and prioritizes resource needs for AMC and Specialty Hospital departments. Works closely with Operations Directors and clinical managers, and in conjunction with Pathology Finance, to ensure cost effective operations and that AMC and enterprise operational financial performance meets budget
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Medical Lab Science, or other life science (biology, chemistry)
Masters degree in Healthcare Mgmt, Public Health, Business, Science or related field preferred
ASCP or comparable certification preferred
8-10 years of Academic Medical Center pathology laboratory operational experience required
5-7 years of people management experience required
