Sr. Director, Global Compliance Excellence
Job Description
We are looking for a strategic and seasoned leader to drive global compliance excellence, including essential and innovative ethics and compliance program initiatives across geographies with complex and diverse needs. The role reports to the Vice President, Global Compliance Lead. As a Global role, the Senior Director of Global Compliance Excellence will need to demonstrate some flexibility in relation to time zones in order to appropriately advise the teams that they support.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
Lead efforts to operationalize key strategic initiatives and compliance program enhancements across complex and diverse geographies, in order to ensure business activities comply with relevant ethical standards, laws and regulations.Develop and carry out strategy and plan of action, in consultation with the Global Compliance Lead and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, to support global compliance excellence in key ethics and compliance initiatives across geographies, as part of an integrated risk model.Support the creation of new global ethics and compliance frameworks in a variety of contexts to meet strategic priorities, including expedient and ethical decision-making while supporting business ownership and accountability.Partner with International Legal and affiliate leadership and other stakeholders to identify and drive adoption of essential and innovative practices, and ways of working, in order to support compliance infrastructure and governance needs.Drive greater consistency and excellence in core compliance program elements, including policies, training and communications, and transparency reporting, through partnership with International Legal and affiliate leadership and other senior stakeholdersIdentify, develop, and equip teams across geographies with tools and best practices to empower ethical and sound decision-makingStay abreast of relevant ethics and compliance developments and industry trends. Work in partnership across Global Compliance Operations, Office of Ethics and Compliance, Global Legal Business Partners and other teams to help ensure the organization operates within ethical and compliance frameworksFoster a high-performance culture. Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to colleagues to enhance the broader team’s capabilities and effectiveness.Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required (BA/BS) or MS/MA or MBA, or Ph.D. A Juris Doctorate or fully qualified legal credentials in one or more geographies of operations is preferred but not required.Extensive professional experience in-house in biotech, pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated industries or law firm advising in all relevant areas of practice for these industries. Ideally the majority of the years of career spent in-house.14+ years of experience, with a BA/BS degree or 12+ years of experience, with an MS/MA, JD, MBA, or PhDManagement experience and ability to mentor and oversee projects involving colleagues across different teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally one or more other languages of the countries in which the company operates.Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Invest time and effort in building strong relationships with relevant stakeholders. Act as a trusted advisor and expert and cultivate a collaborative environment based on mutual respect and understanding.Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset developing solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation.Work together with colleagues across Legal and Ethics and Compliance teams to find ethical and compliant solutionsCultivate and display the ethics and values for which Gilead strives and actively engage with stakeholders from a place of trust and partnership. Be firm when needed, even when working with more senior stakeholders. Apply a deep understanding of the biopharma industry, Gilead's business objectives, and the specific challenges faced by different departments. This will enable the legal and compliance team to provide tailored and practical advice. Respond promptly to inquiries, requests, or concerns raised by business stakeholders. Demonstrate a sense of urgency in addressing their needs and provide timely feedback. Foster open and transparent communication channels with business stakeholders. Clearly communicate requirements, explain the rationale behind decisions, and provide regular updates on relevant changes or developments. Continuously evaluate and improve internal processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in supporting the business in achieving company goals. Minimize unnecessary bureaucracy and simplify workflows to facilitate smooth interactions. Embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Actively seek feedback from business stakeholders and strive to enhance the quality and effectiveness of support provided.
