The Senior Director, New Product Planning (Sr. Dir-NPP) will lead the NPP sub-function team in China, playing a crucial role in ensuring that the organization is prepared for new product innovations. This leader will be responsible for coordinating with Innovation Readiness (IR) strategy leaders and leading the NPP team through critical stages of new product development, from assessment to commercial strategy to launch readiness. With a deep understanding of scientific principles and a strong business acumen, the Sr. Dir-NPP will oversee the strategic direction for the 4 prioritized therapeutic areas identified in the IR process.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation Readiness Coordination (Stage 1)
Lead the coordination of the Innovation Readiness (IR) assessment process in collaboration with cross-functional teams to evaluate the commercial environment for new products.Oversee the assessment of market landscapes, competitive dynamics, and unmet needs for each new product, ensuring the NPP team plays a key role in accelerating decision-making.Ensure speed and efficiency in conducting assessments for an increased number of products in the pipeline, maintaining high standards of strategic evaluation.Strategy Definition & Integrated Planning (Stage 2)
Lead the development of commercial strategies in collaboration with medical leadership during the strategy definition phase.Provide critical insights into market potential, commercial value, and strategic fit for prioritized products in the pipeline, while working to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals.Define integrated plans and coordinate the process for obtaining funding, collaborating closely with both medical and commercial functions to ensure a well-rounded, actionable strategy.Provide guidance to the cross-functional teams to prepare for the product's entry into the market, including early-stage marketing and pre-launch activities.Launch Readiness & Execution (Stage 3)
Oversee the development and execution of launch readiness plans for new products, ensuring that commercial strategies and IR plans are aligned and actionable.Lead the NPP team in providing commercial insights for IR execution and measurement during the pre-launch and launch phases.Collaborate with marketing, regulatory, and medical teams to ensure readiness for launch, ensuring that commercial teams are equipped with the necessary tools and insights.Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
Partner with Innovation Readiness strategy leaders across prioritized therapeutic areas to ensure early strategic input from a commercial perspective.Providing mentorship and guidance to the team members to enhance capabilities and ensure alignment with the overall business objectives.Build strong relationships with senior leadership, ensuring that market insights, commercial potential, and strategic priorities are integrated into decision-making at all levels.Qualification/Requirements
Scientific Expertise & Business Acumen: Strong scientific background with a deep understanding of drug development, commercialization strategies, and market dynamics, paired with a sharp business acumen.Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, especially in collaboration with medical, regulatory, and commercial functions.Strategic Thinking & Decision-Making: Ability to define and drive strategic direction, integrating market insights and scientific expertise into actionable commercial strategies.Innovation Readiness Experience: Familiarity with the Innovation Readiness process and the ability to integrate early-stage commercial input into product development, particularly in the context of new product launches.Communication & Influence: Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and navigate complex organizational structures.Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a track record of using data and insights to drive commercial decisions and optimize product strategies.Leadership & Team Development: Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Experience:
10+ years of experience in New Product Planning, Commercial Strategy, or related roles within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.Proven experience working on complex, cross-functional projects, particularly in the context of new product launches, market access, or commercial strategy.Strong experience in managing and developing teams, with a focus on strategic leadership and business development.Experience in working within the Innovation Readiness framework or similar early-stage commercial planning processes is highly preferred.Education:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (MBA, PhD, PharmD, etc.) preferred
