Sr. Director Security Operations

THE ROLE

In close partnership with NewCo’s Chief Information Security Officer, lead and further develop our global cybersecurity capabilities. This role will oversee the Security Operations Center (SOC), Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunting, Incident Response, Crisis Management, Insider Risk, Digital Forensics, Vulnerability & Weakness Management, and Network and Cloud Security Engineering & Operations. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, strong leadership, and an enthusiasm for crisis management and operational excellence. You will also lead, coach, mentor, and develop a growing team of information security professionals that sit within NewCo and its operating companies.

Preference for this leader to be based in Raleigh, NC / remote +30% travel also acceptable. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Cyber Defense Leadership: Provide technical leadership across cybersecurity incident management and the Security Operations Center (SOC), with a focus on enhancing incident handling processes, detection engineering, and threat interdiction capabilities.  Crisis Management: Oversee crisis response for cyber incidents, ensuring seamless planning, escalation, and resolution of major incidents to minimize business impact.  Endpoint and Threat Management: Own and manage endpoint security tools, ensuring comprehensive coverage and effectiveness across the enterprise while continuously improving detection and prevention mechanisms.  Cloud and DevOps Security: Drive security capabilities by embedding security into DevOps workflows, leveraging cloud-native tools, and advancing automation for detection and response.  Integrated Security Operations: Oversee proactive Threat Intelligence and Threat Hunting efforts, ensuring effective integration of actionable intelligence into security processes.  Insider Risk & Forensics: Build and manage an Insider Risk program to detect and mitigate internal threats. Lead Digital Forensics capabilities to support advanced investigations and evidence collection.  Vulnerability Management: Drive vulnerability and weakness management programs, prioritizing remediation to reduce enterprise risk and strengthen the organization’s security posture.  Vendor and Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with external vendors to ensure product effectiveness and build partnerships that align with business objectives. Collaborate with internal teams to align security operations with organizational goals.  Operational Maturity: Develop clear documentation for processes, metrics, and outcomes, ensuring adherence to SLAs and compliance requirements. Foster continuous improvement across all cybersecurity functions. Stay current and share best practices with operating companies on how to use modern methods to address security gaps. Partner with legal and the data protection officer to ensure consistent execution and measures for the laws and practices around data protection, globally. Facilitate and monitor key performance metrics and reporting frameworks to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the program, facilitating resource allocation and increasing the maturity of the security.

WHO YOU ARE

Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in enterprise-wide information security.  10+ years of relevant experience with broad expertise in cybersecurity operations, including cloud and network security engineering.  Industry-recognized information security management certifications such as: CISSP, CISM, or CRISC desired.  Proven ability to analyze threat actor trends, determine enterprise weaknesses, and drive preventative mechanisms.  Deep knowledge of Cloud Security, Network Security, Data Protection, Web/Mobile Application Security.  Passion for cybersecurity, with active interest in current trends, emerging threats, and attacker tactics.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences, from technical staff to C-suite executives.  Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, AWS Security, or Azure Security are highly desirable.  Experience with Purple Teaming, Threat Informed Defense, and understanding the "attacker mindset" to stay ahead of evolving threats.
