Role Summary As an Electronics Diagnostics Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and quality of shipping products by identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex technical issues that may arise during the production, deployment, or operation of these products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including electronics design, reliability engineering, and quality assurance, to root cause product failures and defects, providing actionable insights that drive improvements in product design and performance. Your expertise will be vital in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues related to hardware, firmware, and software, ensuring that the products are reliable and provide an exceptional customer experience. By leveraging your deep technical knowledge and problem-solving skills, you will help to prevent recurring issues and facilitate faster time-to-market by enabling the release of robust and well-tested products. This role requires a mix of strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to improving product quality. The ideal candidate will have experience in diagnostics, failure analysis, and root cause determination, as well as a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable products that customers trust. Responsibilities Lead Root Cause Analysis and Failure Investigations: Identify the underlying causes of complex product failures, collaborating with hardware designers, software development, field reliability and service teams to diagnose issues. Investigate, analyze, and document failures in shipping products, providing detailed reports and recommendations for corrective actions. Product Reliability: Contribute to hardware/software design improvements on existing and future products by identifying patterns and potential risks that could impact the overall product lifecycle and customer satisfaction. Collaboration: Work closely with design, development, field reliability and operations teams to ensure swift resolution of issues and continuous product enhancement. Testing & Validation: Participate in the testing and validation process to ensure that product fixes and design changes effectively address identified issues. Customer Focus: Ensure the resolution of issues enhances the overall customer experience, aligning with R|V Tech’s quality and reliability standards. Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of issues, investigations, and resolutions to inform future product development efforts. This includes the development of detailed Theory of Operation documents to provide a thorough understanding of system designs, operational behaviors, and failure modes to guide troubleshooting and future improvements. Leadership Communication: Present high-severity issues and their impact to senior leadership, providing clear, data-driven insights and recommendations for next steps, ensuring alignment with business objectives and timelines. Multiple Products: Infotainment, Connectivity/Telematics, and Vehicle Access System products for Rivian | VW Group Technologies (R|V Tech). Qualifications Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Techniques: Experience in utilizing failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), or other systematic diagnostic approaches. Product Testing & Validation: Experience with testing methodologies, including design verification, stress testing, regression testing, and integration testing. Electrical Engineering (EE) fundamentals: Ability to read and understand complex schematics of electronic circuits and systems to identify failure points, diagnose issues, and suggest improvements. Proficient in analyzing analog and digital signals, including waveform analysis, voltage levels, timing diagrams, and protocol-specific signals like I2C, SPI, I2S, PDM, MIPI DSI/CSI, PCIe, CAN and Ethernet. Test Equipment: Debug Tools Proficiency in using diagnostic and analysis tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, and other test equipment. SW Scripts and Automation: Experience in Python or other scripting tools for automation and test Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or related fields) with 5 years' experience or master's degree with 3 years' experience Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience with CAN network analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging CAN-based systems (e.g., using Vector CANalyzer, PEAK Systems tools, or similar). Experience with Automotive Ethernet standards (e.g., 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1) and the ability to troubleshoot and analyze Ethernet-based communications in vehicles. Knowledge of on board diagnostics (OBD) protocols, including how to interface with ECUs, read and interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and execute diagnostic commands. Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $132,500.00 - $165,100.00. (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
