Responsibilities

As a Risk Specialist with Berkley Renewable Energy, you will be expected to ensure that the high standards of our risk services organization are promoted and maintained. You will provide technical advice and account information to underwriting for risk assessment and analysis for the purpose of insuring renewable energy and oil & gas accounts.  Conduct physical visits and virtual surveys of renewable energy and oil & gas operations.  Complete risk assessment surveys at client locations and jobsites to identify potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in the underwriting process and consult with customers to help prevent and mitigate insured losses.

 

Write detailed risk evaluation reports that provide a technical assessment of risk, address the safety culture and effectiveness of risk management controls, provide meaningful recommendations and consult with management to improve where needed.Strong internal communication skills and the ability to build relationships with underwriting and claims, senior leadership, and with other Risk Services staff.Strong external communication skills (verbal and written) to develop key relationships with our brokers/agents and customers to create a long-term business relationship through the successful renewal of accounts. Serve as technical resource to underwriters, claims handlers, and managers. This includes being a subject matter expert on renewable energy as well as oil and gas operations, conducting research on emerging issues, and participating in relevant industry groups.Work directly with customers on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent losses. Maintaining current knowledge of industry trends, regulations and evolving/improving safety and risk management practices.Analyze loss trends, recognize opportunities to provide risk control products and/or services which can help reduce losses.Strong problem solving, critical thinking and time management skills.Maintain timely, relevant communications with the Vice President of Risk Services and President of Berkley Oil & Gas / Berkley Renewable Energy. Qualifications Bachelors of Science degree or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of the renewable energy agency community and territory is a plus.5 years or more of experience working with renewable energy. This should include experience with wind, solar, geothermal, biofuel, battery storage and other emerging sources of renewable energy service contractors and producers.  Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be an effective listener.Analytical skills to critically assess risks as to exposures and hazards.Candidate should demonstrate strong marketing skills to participate in new/renewal business development. Demonstrated ability to effectively use required software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite. Should be able to create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets.Requires a minimum of 40% overnight travel and frequent day trips (company truck provided). The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $130,000 – $165,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
