The Position:

The Senior Engineer, Live Events will be an experienced Engineer of Live Master Control workflows. Reporting to the Manager of Live Event Engineering, this position will be supporting the front line of the premier Tier1 streaming live event content on the platform.  This position requires a highly technical individual who is also comfortable in supporting a live-on-air environment.  The unique skillset for the position requires traditional BOC/TOC video comprehension of workflows combined with IP networking, multicast/unicast, system design/maintenance, A/V Encoding and Transcoding.  Engineer will perform system checks pre-event, oversee operations platform and interface stability, and provision event specific configurations for live events, ensuring clean content and distribution, and disseminate post-event/shift reports to management.  This position will be responsible for proper communications, escalations, signal flow, and the overall functionality of our systems during live operations.

Responsibilities:

Configure Digital Control Room systems for Tier1-3 Live Events.Support live event planning, offering input on requirements and operational stability.As part of live events, technically support; automation, file playback, graphic insertion, scte insertion, source routing and failover, and DR.Distribute post-event reports to the highest levels of management.Collaborates on designs, maintenance and support for efficient and reliable operation.Active participant in the configuration/maintenance, workflow and troubleshooting of all live operation workflows, including change-control process.Engineering knowledge of routing/switching systems and full end-to-end digital workflow from signal acquisition to end user delivery, baseband a/v processing and signal flow, multicast/unicast, SRT, and industry standard integration best practices.Maintain scheduling systems resources and independently follow test and live event bookings thoroughly and precisely.Support shifts will include nights, weekends, holidays as dictated by live event content, with opportunities for overtime.Build test workorders to meet operations and downstream client engineering teams needs with respect to available resources.

 

QualificationsBachelor’s degree or experience in relevant field required.Broadcast or Digital television engineering experience with minimum of five (5) years in a broadcast, technical, OTT relevant environment as an engineer.Familiarity of MPEG 2 and 4 encoding and decoding, MPEG over IP, multi-way processors, matrix-based communications systems, plant routing systems, and third-party OTT devices.Familiarity with various video formats: 1080i, 1080p, 2160p SDR/HDR/HLG/PQ, PAL/NTSCComfortability and a healthy experience in Master Control signal flowsExperience with SDI and SDI-over-Fiber transmissionsFamiliarity with various audio formats: dolby, atmos, stereoExperience with VANC metadata standards (i.e SCTE, Captions, etc.).Experience with Nielsen Watermarking.Proficient with MS Office, Lucid, AutoCAD or other workflow representation software.Excellent communicator and be able to think and react quickly in a highly technical operational environment for the premier events on the platform.Position requires a cool, level-headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” streaming operations.Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex matters.Ability to support night and weekend assignments as needed.Demonstrated ability to analyze, compile and deliver regular clear, concise reports detailing system performance and reliability.
