Sr. Engineer - Packaging Development

Job Description:

This position is responsible for creating, developing and commercializing packaging initiatives that support core brand growth, efficiency and innovation for Mars Wrigley North America.  This role provides technical support to troubleshoot key quality or manufacturing issues.  

What are we looking for? 

Minimum Requirements

B.S. Packaging Science Degree or related technical discipline

5+ years of industry experience

Advanced knowledge of packaging development and problem solving methodologies

Demonstrated record of success utilizing scientific principles and disciplined problem solving to develop and improve packaging designs/processes

Previous packaging scale-up leadership required

Demonstrated ability to navigate within cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Packaging Science or related technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of industry experience

Understanding & work experience on packaging sustainability

What will be your key responsibilities?

Leads development of ‘fit for purpose ‘packaging platforms that are designed to maximize desirability/feasibility/viability.

Strategic Cell Leadership Team member.  Influencer for cell core growth and innovation projects.  Also responsible for ideating and realizing strategic cell value leadership goals.

Develops detailed packaging specifications to ensure quality materials and best value for money on all packaging components used at our facilities, co-packers and co-manufacturers.

Initiates, coordinates and executes line trials at appropriate supply locations to confirm that quality attributes and performance metrics are achieved. 

Manages packaging suppliers to ensure proper execution of projects and recommends/qualifies new ones when appropriate. 

Coordinates the creation of high quality prototypes to gauge consumer desirability, influence teams and support customer collaboration. 

Collaborates with global Mars counterparts to spot opportunities for scale, ensure sharing of best practices and coordination of key activities.

Managing and measuring work for themselves as well as T1 and T2 Packaging Engineers on Strategic Cell activities

Develop and onboard new Associate Packaging Engineers and Packaging Engineers to Mars culture and business processes.
