Job Summary: 

The Field Data Analyst will interface directly with clients and prospects to provide financial analysis (cost drivers and trends) and renewal projections/materials (predictive analysis and methodologies) in partnership with the Relationship Manager and Account Executive. Serves as a project manager under the direction of benefit leadership focusing on the changing needs of our clients and teams. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Provides underwriting analysis services through scrutinizing information on medical/Rx claims, demographics, benefit design, medical network and other standard criteria.  

Evaluates stop-loss renewals for fairness, accuracy, and consistency; challenges cost assumptions and negotiates directly with MGU/stop-loss representatives/underwriters focusing on proposed limitations and exclusions, negotiates terms and makes recommendations to Sales and Service Teams.  

Assists the Client Advisors and Service Teams with negotiations, analyzes underwriting data/methodology from carriers and makes recommendations for adjusting/explaining rate factors to obtain better premium/terms 

Delivers consistency and provides ongoing improvement of the client financial/data analytics and assists with the development of new reporting tools and models  

Prepares reporting packages for self-funded clients in accordance with playbook (e.g. progress report, strategy, pre-renewal, renewal).  

Responsible to understand and to expertly explain external market influences and internal experience trends driving benefit costs to clients.  

Assists in the preparation and delivery of client and prospect presentations and demonstrates data analytics and modeling tools, as appropriate 

Identifies cost reduction opportunities and alternative funding arrangements for prospects and clients.  

Responsible for detailed knowledge of carrier and TPA reporting systems of assigned clients for all data analysis and reporting needs through developing and maintaining excellent carrier/vendor relationships 

Gathers, calculates, and organizes benchmarking data from relevant industry sources  

Researches, screens, plans for, and implements third party resources and maintains the ability to present these resources to clients and prospects. 

Evaluates processes and makes recommendations to the leadership team and assists with implementation 

Coordinates the development and ongoing management of benefit specific materials with marketing 

Collaborates with benefits service team members and represents team when managing the above items.  

Keeps up to date industry trends and updates, new product information, legislation, coverage and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance. 

Performs work activities in an accurate manner and with the proper sense of urgency  

 

Requirements: 

Strong computer skills and a high level of comfort in a virtual work setting 

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products 

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. 

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities  

Ability to work well on a team 

Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities 

 

Education/Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree preferred with a preference in quantitative analytical field such as Finance, Account, Math, Statistics and Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience.   

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Employee Benefits related field with experience in quantitative analysis solving business problems in a brokerage or consulting firm with large, self-funded employers or as a large group underwriter with health insurance or stop-loss carrier. 

Current Insurance License in Health and Life for the state in which your HNI office is located
