The University of Miami UHealth – Department of Anatomic Pathology - at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a full time Sr. Histotechnologist.
SUMMARYThis is a specialized position that requires a wide range of experience in tissue processing, sectioning and immunohistochemistry. Under minimum supervision, performs as a laboratory professional who prepares tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron and/or immunofluorescence as appropriate. Uses the Laboratory and hospital systems to accession data and to perform other appropriate system functions as needed.
JOB FUNCTIONSPrepares tissues specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more complex jobs involving histoimmunicyto-chemistry for clinical patient diagnosis; maintains quality controls.
Reviews quality control and determines the acceptability of testing patient results, and instrument function by applying established policies and procedures.
Manages histology laboratory including maintaining all equipment, placing of orders for reagents and material.
Maintains records of samples including sample accessioning and paraffin block and slide files.
Follows specimen handling and processing procedures.
Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment; participates in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures. May provide leadership to employees within a section.
Answers questions and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions.
Oversees quality assurance activities and makes recommendations for improvement.
Uses independent judgment, decision-making skills and correction action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity.
Handles clinical and patient concerns in a confidential manner employing integrity and discretion/
Independently identifies and resolves problems, equipment and specimen integrity identification
Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSBachelors degree with three years of experience required.
A current State of Florida Histotechnologist license is required.
3 years of relevant experience performing Histotechnologist functions in a medical setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Solid computer skills.
