Sr. Lab Technician

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Territory Manager, Onsite Services and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team of over 1,500 on- and off-site expert personnel – and our customers – to perform customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Shift: Mon - Fri, days

Location: Lexington, MA

Wage Range: $27-28 per hour

What we’re looking for: 

High School diploma or GED is required, a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is preferred or equivalent scientific lab environment experience.

Previous experience working in a laboratory environment required.

Microsoft Office experience required with proficiency in Excel and Teams. 

Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements in a laboratory environment.

Proven ability to work collaboratively with scientists of different backgrounds.

Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.

Ability to influence people at all levels to deliver improvements in operational effectiveness.

Able to partner with other teams and suppliers and deliver results in a matrix environment, handling multiple internal and external partners/stakeholders.

Excellent problem-solving capabilities and confidence to make clear decisions sometimes with limited information.

Excellent planning, organizational, analytical and networking skills.

Ability to be flexible and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.

Proficient in data capture, analysis and reporting using various IT systems particularly Microsoft Excel.

Experience working with EHS policies and procedures.

Specific trainings on instruments will be provided by the lab scientists.

Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the organization and team members.

To be flexible with working hours when required in order to deliver the service required to our customers.

Be able to pick up and follow protocols closely, with attention to details.

Self-motivated, energetic, dependable.

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.
 

In this role you will:

Remove chemical waste and other lab waste (daily).

Dishwasher (daily) and put away clean glassware.

Cleaning of lab glassware that cannot go into the dishwasher (daily).

Changing of the carboy below the sink with chemical wastewater (daily or every other day, depending on need).

Exchange of sticky mats in the powder labs – blue mats (daily).

Maintain a neat and orderly area.

Adhere to all EH&S safety procedures per approved SOPs.

Use Avantor computer systems in fulfillment of job duties.

Document change requests.

Preparation of eluents and buffers for ULPC analysis (weekly).

Vials of standards, references for ULPC (of internal references) (weekly).

Refilling of eluents on the UPLC (weekly).

Check waste container of UPLC (weekly).

Discard of expired buffers and eluents (weekly).

Ordering of lab consumables (weekly).

Filling of lab consumables from storage into lab spaces (weekly).

Fill up shoe covers (weekly).

Changing of lab coats (weekly).

Changing of cloths around the sink (weekly).

Cleaning of lab surfaces and above cupboards (bi-weekly).

Calibration of pipettes monthly.

Fill solution for pH meter.

Re-filling of ethanol bottles.

Re-filling of water bottles.

Re-filling of DUMAs from storage to lab spaces.

Responsible for data collection, order entry and order confirmation to bring inventory to the designated maximum level.

Coordinate delivery schedules so that all stockroom orders will be delivered in a timely manner.

Proper product identification.

Rotation of stock.

Review of product mix.

Other duties as assigned.
