We are hiring for a Sr. Labor Relations Specialist. This position may be based near a hub location or remotely.
This role, the Sr. Labor Relations Specialist, will be a key contributor to implementing the national labor relations strategy, in partnership with the respective BU operations leadership teams. They provide expertise and advice to the organization's leaders and supports the work of the HR Directors of Workforce and Labor Relations.
Together with the HR Director of Labor Relations, they participate in preparation for collective bargaining negotiations. This role will participate in labor union negotiations of our successor CBAs. The Specialist, working with the Director of Workforce Relations will also advise the business on strategic positive employee relations initiatives to ensure ongoing effective employee engagement. The role reports directly to the VP of Labor and Workforce Relations.
Participates in implementing the national labor relations strategy aligned with corporate objectives, business priorities and company culture.
Works closely with the Director of Workforce Relations on employee engagement initiatives. May lead on site assessments independently and provide actionable insights for leaders.
Works with the Director of Labor Relations and HR leadership in preparing the key elements regarding the negotiating mandate for approval.
Provides support for the local collective agreements.
Builds strong credibility and open and regular relationships with various trade union bodies by promoting a better understanding of business issues, business priorities and mutual respect.
Able to understand and provide guidance on the various collective agreements and grasps the priority issues in order to make recommendations for the best possible solutions and improvements. Assists with the maintenance of the national summary of collective agreement conditions.
Assists the Director of Labor Relations, HRBPs and BU DCMs in the negotiation/regulation of grievances and major litigation cases.
Acts as a key resource in the labor relations field.
Assists with training and coaching of HR and business stakeholders on their respective CBAs and the interpretation of it, various issues related to labor relations such as effective conflict resolution, the use of disciplinary measures, etc.
Participates in arbitration hearings and with various outside agencies when necessary.
Typical Minimum Qualifications
Degree or equivalent experience.
Typically has 7+ years of professional experience.
Critical Skills
2+ years of experience in labor relations, specifically including contract negotiation preparation, grievance handling, and executing employee engagement strategies.
Must be willing to travel as required, approximately 25-40%.
Supports representation campaigns, elections, and related matters
Solid credibility and great interpersonal skills to interact at all levels of the organization, with unions and external partners.
Sound judgment, diplomacy, maturity and finesse in interactions.
Additional Knowledge and Preferred Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in industrial relations or human resources management, or relevant experience.
Ability to manage by influence, good mobilizing skills.
Ability to function in a matrix environment, in a fast-growing company, demonstrating excellent management of priorities.
Results-oriented, takes initiative, autonomous and high work capacity.
Experience in a healthcare or distribution company would be an asset.
