Sr. Loan Underwriter

      

The Sr. Loan Underwriter for Thrivent Bank will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and making credit decisions on mortgage, home equity, consumer, and small commercial loan requests. Make high level lending decisions in the best interest via the client while managing the risk to the Bank. Make recommendation to the credit supervisor and other appropriate Bank personnel in order to enhance the success of the department, the client and the Bank. Maintain safety and security of our clients, our employees, and Thrivent Bank assets by adhering to regulations and internal policies and procedures.

         

          

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Analyze and make credit decisions on loans in accordance with all Thrivent Bank policies and procedures.Recommend underwriting process improvements and criteria to be implemented within automated underwriting decision engine.Active in underwriting activities required to set the direction of the department.Recommend updates and changes to underwriting policies and procedures as needed and participate in the approval of underwriting decisions that represent an exception to the approval Loan Policy and Procedures.Excellent knowledge of industry trends in the changing market place.Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing complex income tax returns and financial statements.Review appraisals and other collateral valuations.Analyze and approve employee loan requests.Consistently meets appropriate service level timelines as designed for department.Maintain acceptable percentage level of charge-off loans.Exercise sound judgement and decision-making skills using the appropriate underwriting guidelines.Use various loan origination systems as needed.


Required Job Qualifications

This position will be based in Utah.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.Minimum of 5 years of experience in lending, preferably in a retail banking environment.Minimum of 5 years of experience in consumer loan underwriting highly preferred.Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills by relating well to others, displaying tact and diplomacy, showing respect towards others’ opinions and reflecting a team player approach.

Excellent communication skills in writing and in person.Strong client-focused skills.Must be well organized, efficient, and able to coordinate multiple tasks.Possess strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving issues.Knowledge of applicable federal and state lending regulationsFNMA, Freddie, FHLB underwriting guidelines.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $69,053.00 - $93,425.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
