The Senior Manager of Corporate Accounting will lead and manage the day-to-day corporate accounting activities, including the general ledger, account reconciliations, month-end, quarter, and year-end close processes, while applying strong judgement in the appropriate application of corporate policies and GAAP. This role is also responsible for the design and operating effectiveness of the control environment within the areas of responsibility. The Senior Manager will demonstrate accountability and leadership in the integrity of information in the general ledger and the advancement of priorities independent of management oversight.

This individual will develop and coach a team of associates to be able to identify, manage, escalate, and effectively manage risk within areas of responsibility. The Senior Manager will manage team responsibilities independently, establishing direction and prioritizing efforts in leading a team of associates to execute on the department’s mission. This role will serve as the subject matter expert in multiple and highly complex business activities, demonstrating broad perspective and critical thinking that is cross-functional, extending beyond areas of responsibility. The associate will possess the ability to get to the root cause of an issue, demonstrating strategic thinking while leveraging technical expertise in formulating solutions. This individual is also expected to build and leverage cross-functional and external partnerships in support of departmental objectives, ensuring Accounting customers’ needs are met.

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office and have a hybrid work arrangement 

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

· Lead a functional team responsible for completion of accounting activities, such as account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close. Ensure all accounting responsibilities are completed timely, accurately, and in accordance with corporate policies. Support timely and accurate financial statement recognition of accruals, unique transactions, and accounting estimates, demonstrating scope of expertise.

· Ensure financial controls are in place and operating effectively within your team, including but not limited to the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, changes to the chart of accounts and other key general ledger reports.

· Manage and/or perform monthly and quarterly financial analysis, and lead related discussions with senior management and external parties. Adapt communications and analyses to levels appropriate for each audience and in a complete, concise format.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Financial Reporting, FP&A, CAF Accounting, Legal, Accounting Operations, Tax, Treasury, Technology, Marketing, Logistics, and other corporate functions to drive process improvements, financial visibility, and resolve issues in a timely manner. Serve as a key business partner and SME to these and other functional areas to support advancement of business initiatives. Ensure new initiatives contain adequate accounting requirements and are tested successfully to ensure no interruption to financial reporting. Demonstrate knowledge of own financial and operating systems and related capabilities. Is able to identify and communicate risks to business partners while also demonstrating flexibility to support a broader scope in determining reasonable and/or negotiable requirements.

· Continually seek efficiency and control improvements to further capabilities and contributions. Leverage internal capabilities and external resources as needed to independently pursue opportunities to strengthen the team.

· Manage, lead and develop associates through timely performance feedback delivered during day-to-day observations, file reviews and an annual performance review. Responsible for creating individual development plans and business objectives designed to enhance and assist associate growth.

· Support the CAO and other accounting leaders in planning and executing quarterly reviews and the annual audit, conducted by an external public accounting firm.

Purpose of the role

The Senior Manager of Corporate Accounting is responsible for a team whose primary objective is the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the Company’s financial information on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This individual will be an effective communicator with a strong technical understanding of the Company’s general and corporate accounting functions, and serve as a “go-to” Accounting resource for various departments including FP&A, CAF, Strategy and other core business areas.

· Ensures valuable changes and improvements are identified, reinforced and sustained by their team

· Ability to develop and promote other associates for organizational needs

· Ability to apply business and technical accounting knowledge to produce results and drive change

Education and/or Experience:

· Four-year degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

· CPA required

· Strong technical accounting skills including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls

· Seven or more years of relevant accounting experience, including at least three years in public accounting and/or with a large public company

· Four or more years of experience leading teams to achieve common goals, including supervising direct and/or indirect reports

· Exceptional results focus, including project management and change management skills

· Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
