Responsibilities The Position Manages activities of two or more disciplines or departments. Oversees experienced level professionals and/or may be responsible for subordinate managers. Manages engineers and technical staff in the research, design, development, coding, and testing of software systems, solutions, and products applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Develops, modifies and executes company policies. Accountable for department budget which may be broad and have far reaching impact on the business segment. Software Engineering Manages 2 or more department activities, assigning, coordinating, and reviews work of software engineering subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Analyzes technology trends to identify new product ideas. Manage technical development to ensure compliance with product definitions including environmental requirements. Makes or reviews decisions regarding technical approaches or product designs with staff input considering resource allocation and ensures alignment with project plan. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products. Manage the development of test methodologies, plans and procedures. Oversee development with vendor partners for specific projects. Management Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area(s) of responsibility. Oversee subordinate managers or highly skilled professionals. Hire, train, develop and appraise direct staff. Participates in forecasting operating costs of 2 or more department and performs preparation of budget requests. Qualifications Skills / Requirements: Agile software development and DevOps skills preferred. Proven ability to drive organizational transformation to support business strategy. Demonstrated ability to drive ownership and accountability in delivering quality product on time to customers. Ability to design, develop, code, test, debug and implement technical projects for the fabrication, modification and evaluation of new or existing software solutions or products. Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Software Engineering field. Highly proficient in designing and developing requirements from specifications, oral instructions, or preliminary sketches. Advanced ability to develop and implement test methods and procedures. Ability to work with vendors on project needs. Ability to work in a diverse, fast paced, ever changing environment. Demonstrated leadership, people and team building skills. Ability to manage through subordinate leaders. Ability to persuade others in sensitive complex situations while preserving relationships. Ability to influence others to accept processes and approaches and ability to communicate and influence senior leadership. Ability to coach and develop managers. Ability to effectively resolve staff issues as they arise Excellent written and verbal skills with proactive attitude. Ability to effectively communicate between several departments within the global organization. Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated ability in developing and delivering complex business and technical presentations for senior management. Proven ability to introduce new technologies to improve cost, environmental and other product requirement constraints. Problem solving and troubleshooting skills required to meet design and qualification requirements. Ability to receive assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Ability to lead through change. Proven ability to direct and coordinate staff in developing solutions to technical problems that require extensive investigation and clarification. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s). Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Education and Requirements: 4 year degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or other Technical Degree or 12+ years relevant experience in lieu of a degree. 8+ years experience in software development 3+ years direct staff management experience. Ability to travel both domestically and Internationally up to 15% of time. The salary range is $131,300 - $220,000 per year, which is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements. Non-exempt hourly employees accrue 14 vacation days per year + 7 sick days + 3 personal days. Accrual rate increases with tenure. All employees receive 11 company paid holidays per year. We also close our offices at the corporate level in the U.S. between Christmas and New Year. For operational positions that are expected to work on holidays, we provide additional compensation for hours worked. Health Insurance: Medical insurance offerings from Aetna and Kaiser (CA &HI).
