Sr. Manager, New Business Development, Content Acquisition & Strategy

Position Summary

The Strategic Partnerships Group is seeking a Senior Manager to develop and execute the content strategy for Samsung’s owned & operated, cross-device media. This role will be responsible for identifying and negotiating strategic partnerships that drive revenue and enable new content-led products and services across Samsung’s device ecosystem.

Current and prospective content partners include major studios/networks, publishers, digital media companies, art museums and galleries, record labels, game developers, data providers and other copyright holders.

The candidate should be equally comfortable negotiating complex contracts and collaborating on product strategy, and should have experience leading high-impact projects with cross-functional teams. The candidate should have experience working at the cross-section of “content” (media, entertainment, gaming and/or art) and technology, including a strong understanding of the Mobile and TV landscape, including the key services, distribution channels and business models.

Develop Content Strategy: Shape the content acquisition strategy for Samsung’s O&O services in order to ensure alignment with business goals. Secure buy-in from internal stakeholders in support of such strategy.Identify Prospective Partners: Execute content strategy by identifying and pitching prospective content partners across media formats including publishing, art, short-form video, podcasts and more.Negotiate Partnership Agreements: Lead complex negotiations with major studios/networks, publishers, digital media companies, art galleries, record labels, game developers, data providers and other copyright holders to secure favorable terms. Intellectual property licensing will be a core component of most deals, but deals can also involve revenue-sharing arrangements, mobile application distribution, on-platform and off-platform marketing commitments, advertising inventory sharing, performance data sharing and social media marketing.Internal Leadership & Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing, Ops), both domestically and abroad, acting as point on all aspects of the partnership strategy and execution.Manage Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with content providers in order to identify new areas of collaboration and revenue opportunities.Originate New Businesses: Work with Product, Engineering and Marketing groups across Samsung business units to develop new content-led products and features that enhance Samsung’s ecosystem of devices.

8-10 years of overall experience with Bachelor Degree, MBA or JD preferred4+ years of deal-making experience in entertainment, media, and/or IP licensingExcellent negotiation skills and extensive experience negotiating and redlining non-standard, multifaceted contractsStrong understanding of intellectual property rights and media distribution modelsExperience assisting Product and Engineering teams on both sides of the negotiation to identify workable solutions, which are then reflected in the contractStrategic mindset with the ability to balance creative vision and commercial objectivesExcellent written, verbal, presentation and analytical skills requiredExperience communicating with and presenting to C-level leadershipDemonstrated ability to formulate and defend opinions regarding market and competitive direction along with associated impact on company strategyStrong operational mindset with a decisive, “get it done” and “whatever it takes” mentality

Compensation for this role, for candidates based in New York City, NY, is expected to be between $160,000 ~ $220,000.  Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
