The Role

The Role As a Proofpoint Sr. Manager for Threat Research, you will lead a team of threat researchers tasked with leveraging Proofpoint threat data to serve our most important customers. This team is focused on finding and tracking financially-motivated threat actors inside and outside of Proofpoint’s threat data. Using a variety of research techniques, threat intelligence, and data sources, they produce valuable information to help protect and inform Proofpoint’s email and network detection products as well as our customers.

This person will manage the team of threat researchers responsible for this work. This person will have prior experience in leading a team who hunts for threat actors in vast amounts of data and creates threat intelligence deliverables based on those findings. This person understands a wide variety of areas including threat detection, malware research, data analysis, and host or network forensics.

This role presumes prior people management experience as a direct manager. This leader will be responsible for the hiring, training and professional development of talented threat analysts. This manager will lead the team to tackle the demands of the changing threat landscape

Your day-to-day

Working with threat researchers, malware analysts, data scientists, and detection staff to stay ahead of financially-motivated threat actorsAnalyzing data to create intelligence documents for our customersReviewing accuracy of deliverables created by threat intelligence teamsDiscover and report common and repeated problems to management and propose process and technical improvementsUse of excellent analytical skills to work in a diverse team environment, exchanging ideas and data with developers, support, product managers, and customers

Experience in managing an intelligence team focused on technical collectionAbility to find and hire the best technical talentBackground in security, especially around APT threat actors and malware familiesKnowledge of the overall threat landscapeA passion for surfacing threats, understanding them and communicating them to internal teams and senior leadershipExperience growing technical talent and developing professional growth strategies for highly technical personnelSkills with reporting and metrics trackingFamiliarity with big data and scripting technologiesFocus on how threat intelligence lends value to our customers and productsExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiencesBias for action and willingness to take risksExperience making things happen in a fast-paced dynamic environment3+ Years of people management2+ Leading a cyber security team focused on technical collection

Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 194,475.00 - 285,230.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 162,375.00 - 238,150.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 148,425.00 - 217,690.00 USD
