We are adding Sr. Mechanical Designers to our Kiewit Industrial Engineering team to support a diverse portfolio of projects across our growing Industrial division.  This is a great opportunity to bring your expertise in design, and leadership skills and help us continue to make big impacts across North America. In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant and piping designs, produce 3D models, drawings and documentation, and support design estimates for projects.  You can expect to coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions with engineers, and designers, and lead/mentor others as they develop their design skills.  We like Designers that like solving complex technical issues, have a passion for the details and are committed to delivering the best designs for our clients.   We have a huge backlog of work and a number of large, complex pursuits in new market areas - so if you are looking for long term stability, a variety of work and opportunities to grow and potentially lead a team - we would like to talk with you!

Location

These positions can be based out of our  Lenexa, KS, Minneapolis MN or Houston Texas offices.  We offer flexible work schedules and relocation assistance.  

Responsibilities

•    Utilize SmartPlant 3D (or other 3D design software) to create 3D equipment models based off equipment drawings and provide technical guidance to lower level designers/drafters to ensure work is completed accurately and to our standards. 
•    Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for systems typical for food and beverage, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process steam, process water, drains, and general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.
•    Design material handling systems and generate isometric and detail drawings for systems typical for food and beverage, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, pneumatic conveying, chutework, and ductwork.
•    Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
•    Develop, monitor and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
•    Navigate 3D models and check for interferences and constructability.
•    Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc.
•    Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
•    Develop schedules, work assignments, staffing requirements and support detailed estimates to ensure successful project completion.
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s or Associates degree in computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology, Engineering or related field.
•    Hands on experience with design software such as SmartPlant 3D (or similar plant design 3D software) and Microstation and AutoCAD required.  Preferred experience with SmartPlant 3D
•    A minimum of 15 years' of 3D modeling/detailed design experience is required, with the ability to perform 3D piping design, equipment layout, develop construction drawings.  Experience validating and coordinating with other disciplines for compliance with layouts.  
•    Experience in Industrial, Power, Oil ang gas, manufacturing, performing balance of plant type of design, (piping, pumps, valves, heating, cooling systems, is required).  Must have experience of pipe support design, pipe stress analysis, equipment layout and installation of systems. 
•    Proficient in Navisworks software for design review, and basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Working Conditions Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds. Travel in the U.S. and internationally (5-15%)
