The opportunity 

As a Senior Metrology Engineer within our Optical Process Engineering team, you will directly contribute to our light-field technology by owning and deploying metrology tools in our facility. You will work with a cross-functional team of design, research and development, process, quality, and manufacturing engineers to ensure process readiness for high-volume manufacturing of our waveguides.

What you’ll do 

Install, validate, and own various metrology equipment designed to control Magic Leap’s Waveguide manufacturing processes. This includes recipe setups, statistical validation such as GR&R and matching studies, long-term stability (LTS), and factory and site acceptance testing for new equipment. Perform defect inspections on wafers post-lithographic processes using methods such as AFM, spectral reflectance, and optical defect inspections. Collaborate with internal and external partners, including equipment, manufacturing, and R&D engineers, on next-generation metrology solutions and deployment to the factory environment, including providing inputs on automation and data structures Interpret data from metrology equipment, including identification of potential measurement errors and distillation of issues to the process and manufacturing engineering teams. Collaborate with process engineers to identify and address defect modes, generating detailed reports on metrology findings for internal and external audiences. Maintain metrology equipment, including recommending qualification strategies, calibration schedules, creating work instructions, and training technicians and operators on proper usage and maintenance of the equipment  Work in a cleanroom environment as needed, with the role requiring hands-on work on the equipment.

The experience you bring

5+ years of professional experience in metrology or optical engineering, ideally at the nanoscale Engineering degree (bachelor's of science or higher) in engineering, physics, or materials science, or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements. Proficiency in AFM Proficiency in SEM, EDX, uXRF, and ellipsometry a plus Ability to work effectively with a cross-functional team Working knowledge of statistical analysis software such as JMP

It’s exciting if you also have

M.S or Ph.D. degree in Engineering disciplines   Experience in process engineering or related disciplines in a cleanroom environment Basic coding experience with platforms like Python or MATLAB

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.US Base Salary Range$120,000—$150,000 USD
